just an amazingly simple & pretty piece of music ...this thread needs a little cheer ...even if melancholy cheer ...

Hope you had a NICE NIGHT OUT Ripple .....

OK now I'm worried Ripple hope you are OK

you're missin' a wicked mod contest:D

Saw it and entered, thanks, kelley.....:)

I can't begin to tell you how much I hate the month of November. My first child, Zachary, was born with neuroblastoma and lived exactly 100 days. He died November 22, 1989. My Mother was killed in a car wreck November 9th, 2001. November 15th 2002 my favorite cat (one I helped deliver as he was breech and stuck (poor momma cat)) was hit and killed, he was only 6 years old. Now the news of Lois passing hits in November. November can just bite me.

I love you John.

(((BUGHUG))), B:):):):)

I LOVE WAR PIGS .... & fairies wear boots ....

I've always been partial to "Sweet Leaf' myself -- but I'm not postig a video, I want to stay on ECF!!!

No, I was at a school board convention, listening to the self-important blather on and on about why are kids cannot learn anything anymore in the new computer age -- I think what we need are more threats to their livelihood (it works on us!:thumb:), basics like addition and subtraction (Try getting change when the power goes out at a store now!8-o), and involved parents but what the hell do I know?

You're preaching to the choir, man. I refuse to solely rely on the public education system. My 4 year-old son is already doing first grade work in several areas, and it's not like I'm teaching him things that I didn't know at his age. Schools have declined by catering to the lowest common denominator. They don't want to "hurt any feelings" by failing children who are behind.
   I could rant for days on this one....

Some people know this but most don't -- I'm the father of a teen, a smart kid with anxiety issus, and am active in his school -- coach, VP of the scool board, and volunteer for other events. Time with your child is the one thing you must make if you're a parent, caring about your kid's education and development is one of the greatest gifts you can give them and society in general. Its parents who make sure their kids do their homework, go to their games, go to the damned parent-teachers conference, those are the ones that are rewarded with a child who learns and discovers since the kid knows they are responsible and classwork matters -- its so sad the people who have children and then have no time for them. I waited until I was 35 to have Max and the one thing I am now sure of in my life is that is my purpose, that's what life is about in general; to nurture, to show how to love and care, to investigate and question the status quo, to see and be part of a possible future than we can ever imagine, I don't know what else god thinks but I think its the greatest responsibility of all and a ay that I measure a lot of people...........:)

I would hope so, lox, you're another commiserater who has ended up winning -- now I'm waiting for BB#3 to win, too!:thumb:

Thanks, grief is so selfish........sometimes being a veg has really poor consequences...........I'll see her again in the next reality, I know that and will try and be the friend I should have been, that I should be to the people I like and care for now.:)

hmmm me too....But didn't know BS wrote a song about it  ......
"why are kids cannot learn anything anymore in the new computer age -- I think what we need are more threats to their livelihood (it works on us!:thumb:), basics like addition and subtraction, and involved parents but what the hell do I know?
That "is silly" My kids have learned everything in this new computer age ....parents just have to "be aware of what they are learning" & make sure they learn the basics as you say ... INVOLVEMENT is required !! And that's the trick ...why people think the schools should handle everything always gets me ...I mean I truly appreciate the calculus teacher, handling that information  But the schools being TOTALLY responsible for every aspect their education is just wrong .

The computer "is" my child's livelihood ...so yup if he messes up or doesn't have his other stuff done ...NO COMPUTER !! It's ugly but works...

I applaud YOUR Involvement in the school system Ripple!! SUCH a GREAT DAD !!

I too could go on & on, on the school subject ...but won't

& Bard, sounds like your a good dad too ...4 ? doin' 1st grade stuff ...you better start shoppin' elementary schools now ...
I have been there & done that with my youngest ...smart kids are scary  & finding the RIGHT schools for them is scarier !!

HI SpaceKitty & lox (congrats on your win!)...

I'm glad everyone is feeling a little better about Lois :) I just know she would not have wanted everyone to be SO sad .

I wanna grow up to be Rip. I hope I can keep up the energy to be as involved.

I am already looking at schools. We are in the best district right now but there is an accelerated high school close by and I'm looking at areas with magnet schools. It's nerve racking...

Yeah, we made the decision the most important thing in our lives was preparing our son for life. A confluence of events ended with our moving out to the area where our research found the kids excelled in the system and as safe as a high school as we could find in the future. It came down to the question for us -- is the standard of living more important than our kid's development? Unlike the wealthy and/or uninvolved absentees I see so very much, we chose our child's future......

BB#3, now that you have a child, does it make you not understand how some men father and run? Is it cowardice or just being completely unaware of their responsibility? I just don't understand how any man would not want to be there, no individual accomplishment in my life is more important to me........

I believe that it is pure selfishness. This is the exact reason that I am not a parent and never will be. I am far too selfish to devote the time and energy as well as financials that raising a child PROPERLY command. I refuse to share my toys and my beloved gets the free time I have. I simply do not have the selflessness, patience and temperment to raise a child. I am glad to see that when I open fire on the intruder in my house that it is not likely to be the child of the posters in this thread. I see "Idiocracy" coming to life before my eyes and it makes me very angry and sad. Sad for the kids not being taught what they should be and angry at the insufferably poor parenting I see. People love to blame budget cuts for poor education, but with better parenting we could resolve most of that at home. If there were not security scans we could have the kids in class more and without the teachers fearing the students we could make some headway. I as well could rant all day but will leave you with this golden nugget:
Losing sucks, but by not teaching our kids to lose they will never know the feeling of winning.

And I lost yet another contest for the month...I lost count...somewhere around 0/20 this month.

Yeah Lox on the Volt! I really dig the one I won! Nice 808, very high quality.

MOD, Idiocracy scared me senseless, cause it's more and more likely each day!!!

I gotta weigh in here, being a very imperfect individual with two wonderful children...

My thirteen year old I had when I was eighteen. He's a wonderful child, but I pretty much grew up with him, and it wasn't until he was around eight that I really started involving myself more thoroughly with school, and his development in detail. I can never get those first few stupid years back, and I regret them every day because it is SO much harder to catch up now and let him know how much I really do want him to do all the great things I see him as capable of! His "sperm donor" has never acknowledged his existence, but I'm so lucky to have male family members that step up and try to fill that gap whenever possible, an uncle that is so tough on him but lets him know it's because he's becoming a man.

So really, I wish I could have been that perfect parent, white picket fence and all that, but life doesn't work that way. I wish for that do-over, to start again with him knowing then what I know now...but that isn't happening either! All I can do is fight for him, keep fighting for him, sometimes against him, but all for the end of making him a man I'll be proud to call my son, one who won't create babies and run, one who just might succeed in this world that's getting harder to survive in each day :)

You are a sweetz-heart for sure!:) It all happens too fast, huh? I'm glad other males have stepped up, a boy needs a man to guide him to become a complete adult IMO......

And your 'sperm-donor' has missed the greatest gift that whatever supreme being that exists has given him, more the pity......

Thanks MOD :) all I use anymore is my volt so 2 spares is awesome win.

The thing with Idiocracy isn't so much that it's scary so much as there's way too many people that don't get it. That's the scary part. It's like wait you don't see yourself?
I mean c'mon my nephew once during an argument actually said " you can make anything sound true if your going to use facts and stuff"

I think so too, on both points! My kids are my entire world now, they're the highest joy and highest frustration :D , what a gorgeous rollercoaster ride parenting is!!! Luckily I had grown up a LOT by the time I had my four year old, she's getting the right start on life, and somehow it's not any easier to parent her!!! ;)

Ok one more post and I promise I'll get back to work

Ripple, you're amazing. You remind me of a roommate I had a few years ago, an old hippie from the sixties, (if ya saw few pages back, he was the Libra that put up with me LOL)...such an amazing and peaceful wisdom of the world, and a true caring of all others that share our world.

Gotta reach through the wires and give you big big hugs, cause you make me miss his company, all the long conversations we had involving life, the universe, the nature of the Greater Spirit (whatever name you choose to call that force we all acknowledge and none of us understand :D)

That's why I find myself drawn to this thread like a moth to a flame, enjoying the music and the people here :D You guys are all amazing!!
