I was lucky (?) enough to meet him about 20 years ago when he was in town for the infamous Hegins live pigeon shoot. Very flamboyant and a damn good shot.
I wonder what he is going to say about today...
Hand guns don't kill - people kill. That like saying pencils cause spelling errors or taking everyone's car because drunk drivers kill more people than guns.
What makes you think criminals will follow NEW laws? Doesn't not following laws make them criminals.
Would it make you feel better if the lunatics used chainsaws or axes?
Sorry Ripple but you struck a nerve. I agree with making assault rifles harder to get. I don't understand why there's nothing in place for background checks like there is for handguns. When anyone can walk into Wal Mart and buy an AK47 with nothing but $500.00 and a smile something's definitely wrong. Same goes for sniper rifles. Why does anyone need a large caliber rifle that is accurate up to a mile? It's not for hunting that's for sure.
It's tragic and horrific that some nutjob went off the deep end and did what he did - but it was the act of a psycho the gun didn't act alone.

As a country we cannot seem to have a rational discussion about this subject, more is the pity.........and we will decry the killing of our children again within the next year, its sad that we accept that as a fact instead of having the gumption to do something about it. Hunting/target shooting if fun and appropriate, every other use can and will turn out evilly IMHO.........

Unfortunately your right. There's no easy solution and both sides refuse to find a middle ground - and maybe there isn't one. Rational discussion seems to just go out the window. Is there a problem? Absolutely. Are guns too easy to get? Yes indeed. IMO anyone who can't wait 3-5 days for a thorough background check has nefarious plans.
Maybe it's time we followed Israel's lead and armed and trained out teachers. Unfortunately some of our teachers are kooks too.
Due to the nature of my work I carry a concealed weapon. In 25+ years I have only needed to draw it twice thank god both times I didn't have to use it. But I was thankful I had it - without it I have no doubt things would have ended badly. But when I was asked by a former employer to carry I insisted on a training course first. Why can't we make that a requirement also? Three 2 hour classes isn't much to ask.

There are countries where there are more guns per capita than the U.S. (Israel and Switzerland are two of those countries), but none that have anywhere near as many occurrences of mass-murder as us.

I know you all might find this hard to believe but I am a great believer in the deterrant effect of nearly immediate capital punishment, the amount of miscarriages are fewer than you some would have you believe and the savings on our prison system would be tremendous.......

Yeah, him and I are the best kind of friends to have, the ones you can disagree with sometimes, its a rare quality to find in another human as I've come to find out, don't worry, AG......that's what is wrong with the country, nobody wants to compromise anymore, to listen to the other side at all, its such a major problem, whatever happened to the Great American Melting Pot we learned about in our youth?
