Very interesting! it's too bad it's a disposable (primary) but I can think of a few uses for having a few of those around...

I don't think any disposable battery is gonna be a very good idea for an e-cigarette though, it's size would preclude it from fitting in anything small, and the fact that it's disposable means it wouldn't be very cost effective...

Great Phildo, Great minds always think the same. I am thinking of making a e-hookah also. maybe we may talk more about this.:thumb:

good, but why than look for the small size battery, as soon as its not portable bigger size is not a problem ; and even constant power from 3,7v adapter could be an option.

Very true on the size of the battery...I was just looking for something that would use a more common battery size. Bigger stuff would definitely work..I guess I was looking from the bottom up...start small work up to the big stuff. As far as an adapter goes...I think it might be a tad cumbersome...but way more economical. Nothing's really set in stone...maybe we could start a new e-hookah thread and collaborate?

Holy crap! That's definitely the highest spec AA battery I've ever seen! If they're capable of making those they probably also can produce a 3.6V 900mAh AAA size I guess. Now that would be nice to use in cigars and cigarillos!

[edit] Oh hold on, it's a Lithium battery, not Lithium Ion. That means it's not rechargeable :) [/edit]

the 14500 is also the size.. its an AA primary with 2500 mah capacity..

the biggest li-ion i have is a 32650.. D sized cell with 5000 mah capacity..

its probably the biggest li-ion available.. u wouldnt want it in an e cig take my word for
it..

trog

ps.. it also cost 28 dollars and thats from china at china prices..

Hello guys .
Been lurking for weeks now this is my first post, thanks for a great forum btw.
Some great tips and advice.
Have been trying e-smoking for a couple of months now and think it's a great
idea .(But the devices are not very good at the moment ,well at least the ones i tried arent :( failing vaporizers and poor batteries are spoiling a neat concept.
It would be nice to see e-cigs work well (so i can give up tobacco once and for all).:)
Any way here goes with some idea's for improvement if someone else's already mentioned them then sorry in advance.

1 .A cordless usb ecig .(like a usb-passthrough but with no wires) .

How :- We simply replace slow charging lithium cells with double layered
super capacitors . A bit of maths required here :-
size for size against a lithium e-cig cell you should get about
a 200 farad capacitor @ 2.5 volts .
OR to use 2 smaller ones in series for a bigger voltage 2*100 F @ 5v
that would store -: energy= 1/2CVsquared =100*2.5*2.5 = 625 joules

a typical e-cig lithium battery rated at 4 V @ 120mah supplies :-
4* 0.12 =0.48 amp hours or 0.48*3600= 1800 joules approx .

If 1800 Joules gives us about 80 puffs ,625 Joules should give us about 25 puffs
not all useable though because when Capacitor discharges it's V drops
until below 2.5 V when it's not enough to drive vaporizer. So we get about
2/3 of that ammount = 18 puffs approx . thats good enough

The e-cig /cap-battery could be quickly recharged in just a couple of seconds
by resting on a cradle/charger to make two connections .Of course the other
nice thing about capacitors is that they can take MILLIONS of charge/discharge
cycles without breaking. :)

Hope someone out there takes a closer look at this and maybe makes a better
house/usb e-cig.

Best regards .

Hi again .
Yes been trying to source a couple of suitable capacitors today, keeping the weight
down to under 20 grams with off the shelf devices is difficult unless your having them specifically manufactured for this purpose.Shouldn't be to much trouble though .
Have also been looking for a good way to insulate the vaporizer from the battery case
and outside air so to keep it warm. Just feeling the side of the battery case here and how warm it's getting says that Alot (over 50% i bet)of energy is being wasted heating up the battery case and room. Will probably only need 8 or so joules a puff with an insulated vaporizer.

Been there, done that and have the pics to prove it.

2 supercapacitors of 33 Farad 2.5 Volt in series (Total 16 Farad at 5 Volt) give you enough energy for one big puff (6-7 seconds) or 2 normal puffs. Recharge time about 12 seconds with 450 mA current limiting not to short circuit the USB port. Works fine if connected with a wire to USB, but is quit bulky and rather expensive.

Try this

This was my first e-cig mod, however I'm currently using 4 x AA 2500mAh batteries not 3 as mentioned in the description. :thumb:

A quick description – The Auto Reset Fuse is simply there to protect the 3 x AA batteries which supply 3.6V, measuring more like 4.2V off load. The Mosfet transistor is the main component that allows the use of a very small switch and the 1M ohm resistor is there to make sure the mosfet turns off when the switch is released. When the switch is pressed the Mosfet is turned hard on and allows the full current required to flow through the atomiser and the 5V led is there to indicate that power is there. When the Mosfet is turned on the Mosfet has an internal resistance of less that 0.01 ohms, the result is that the Mosfet has negligible effect, as if the atomiser was directly connected to the batteries. I’m using a 3.5mm stereo jack plug and socket to connect the cable which in turn is connected to the adaptor / switch that the atomiser is screwed onto.

I deliberately used a 2oz tin so I can store the cable when not in use

Or This (my second Mod)

Hi guys, this yet another one of those LED torch mods that everyone seems to be doing at the moment. This is based on a torch that costs just £1.99, I used one of the LED's as the button for the switch and the switch is a super-micro switch rated at 3A. I'm using 3 AAA NimH batteries rated at 1000mAh because they are easy to get and so far it's working well.

HI .The prob with them is that they are 1.2V so you need at least 3 of them to run the vaporizer .Trying to make it as slim and light as you can you gotta go for lithium . I ordered a single aa size battery torch to mod ,and some 14500 batteries which are same dimensions as aa bats ,just waiting for it to be delivered .
->Grumpy santa . What did you use to get the ecig battery to fit onto the end
of your torch mod .?
I only have about 10 mm to play with I think ,and the only thing
i could think of is to run a thread up the outside of the cut off evo battery
tube and screw it into a nut brazed into the torch end .(i want to keep the auto switch ).how did you fix yours . ?

Regards .
