I just started vaping and I have an eleaf with an aspire chamber. I like my set up pretty well but I’m having a really hard time finding the right liquid. I’ve been to a couple different vapor stores and everybody’s answer is so different When it comes to nicotine content and one person apparently knows more than the other..... I started doing this in order to quit smoking. I am in at least a pack a day smoker. I bought a liquid that is 3mg/mL30mL. I told him that I smoke quite a bit. And this is what he gave me. I asked him if that was low because I knew they were different milligrams 3 up to 24 from hearing my friend speak about it. He told me that wasn’t really the correct way you go about measuring nicotine levels. I didn’t know enough to know any different. The liquid he sold me is not doing the trick to curb my nicotine craving at all. From reading it says that is for someone who smokes 1-10 cigarettes a day. Can I buy more nicotine to add to my liquid? What should I be smoking milligram wise? I feel like I’m just in hailing steam and that’s it.

Welcome @Magtanker !

Can I buy more nicotine to add to my liquid?

You could buy and add nicotine. But an easier trial would be to buy a bottle of the identical juice to your 3mg juice, but at 24mg if possible. Then you could mix the two together proportionately to get to the nic level you desire. Equal parts (50/50) would get you juice at 13.5mg nic. 2 parts 24mg and 1 part 3mg would get you 18mg nic level. And so on, but at a max of 24mg if you vaped the new bottle straight. Best to combine in small quantities, even a tank at a time, and keep notes and/or mark your mixes so you will know what level is working for you. I was a pack a day smoker the last 20 years I smoked and quit with 18mg, so that could be a good starting point to try.

Good luck!

HI and welcome. Great suggestions already and all I can add is to not shop at the store that sold you the 3 nic as that's usually for experienced vapers and maybe let the owner/manager know why they lost a customer.
I found out quickly what stores in my area were only concerned with the cash register and not concerned with a customer's needs, rather short sighted on their part.
Good luck getting off the cigs and don't be afraid to ask here any questions you have.

I think you will probably need to go much higher in nicotine but without knowing your setup it's hard to say exactly how much. If it's a very cloudy setup, (more watts, more vapor) I might try 9 mg, if it's a mouth to lung setup (less clouds, less wattage) I would second the suggestion of buying a bottle of 24 mg liquid and trying that, then diluting it with the 3 mg liquid as needed.

Best of luck,

Anna

I was a ppd smoker before vaping and i started at about 15mg with 50/50 vg/pg juice in a nautilus tank from aspire
Dosen't mean you'll need the same amount and it kinda depends on the ratio if you do more vg usually 12 is probably the highest i've seen (over here at least).

Hope that helps and welcome to ecf :)

Hi Magtanker. Welcome to the ECF.

There really Isn't a Hard n' Fast Rule as to what Nicotine mg/ml Level should be used by a given Individual when they try to Quit Smoking.

So much depends on How Dependent they are on Cigarettes? What type of Hardware they are Using. If they are going to Ramp Down on Smoking while Ramping Up on e-Cigarettes or go Cold Turkey? Etc...

But there is a Rule that I think Applies to just about Everyone.

And that is If you Can't Get from "A" to "B" on the train you are on, and you Really Want to get to "B", then you need to get on Another Train.

If 3mg/ml isn't doing it for you, then I would go to 6mg/ml. And if that doesn't work, and you are still Struggling, then go to 9mg/ml.

And if 9mg/ml is OK most of the time, but at Not Enough to beat down the Bad Cravings, then run 9mg/ml in one setup and have a 2nd Setup with 12mg/ml (or 18mg/ml even) in it.

Trust me, You can Quit Smoking with an e-Cigarette. It just might take some Trial and Error (and Yes... Some Frustration) finding what Works for You.

I smoked over a pack a day. Started out with toss away ecigs with 50 mg in them. They didn't produce much vapor and worked so so for me.

I moved up to a Kanger T3S with an ego battery using 48 MG and it worked okay for awhile but just not satisfying not enough vapor for me.

I moved on to a decent kit and cut down to 24mg, plenty of vapor and satisfying. Stayed with that for quite some time.

I have since moved on and do RTAs and have cut down to 3 mg, which works well for me. Took around a year to get there.

You probably need at least 18 to 24 mg. Everyone is different.

And they do confuse the issue. Some of them list it in percent of nic and some list it as mg. Just divide the percent if listed that way by 10 to get the mg. 18 mg is 1.8%

The salesperson who sold you the 3mg nic e-liquid either is not very trustworthy or doesn't know what he's talking about. Shame on him because he probably lost a customer in you.

"Generally speaking":

The typical nicotine recommendations are generally determined by how much you smoked, and are as follows:

1/2 pack per day or less = 6 mg nicotine
1 ppd = 12 mg
1 1/2 ppd = 18 mg
2 ppd = 24 mg

If using sub-ohm coils (coils less than 1.00 ohm) in your juice delivery device, drop the nic level by half of the above.

Figure on consuming at least 3 - 5 ml of liquid daily. Bottles are usually 10 or 30 ml volume.

E-liquid generally has concentrated liquid nicotine, propylene glycol (Pg), vegetable glycerin (Vg) and flavoring extracts.

PG and VG are usually used together in different ratios in e-liquid. For example, a 50/50 PG/VG ratio is common. Some juice vendors offer a range of different ratios depending upon customer preference.

PG = Propylene Glycol - the "flavor carrier" of e-liquid. A secondary source of "throat hit", but not as strong as the nicotine concentration. Some people have a sensitivity or even an allergy to PG. It's very thin in consistancy.

VG = Vegetable Glycerin - the "vapor maker" of e-liquid. Used as a sweeter in many food sources, and also as a skin emollient. It's very thick in consistancy.

Sweeter (sugary) or darker flavors tend to clog coils and wicks faster. E-liquids heavy with Vg are thicker in viscosity and may not wick as well as thinner e-liquids in some tanks.

Good Starter Setups for a Beginner Vaper

In closing, finding the right e-liquid (both flavor and nic content) is probably more difficult to find than the right gear (battery device and juice delivery device). Good luck.

I was a pack a day for almost 5 decades. I started at 12 mg and within 2 weeks went down to 6, which works for me. 8-9 watts with 1.8 coil.

Seems light according to all reference material, I guess I’m an exception to the rule.

Always wondered if cig brand makes a diff. I smoked American Spirit orange.

Hi and welcome. What nic level you need depends very much on the wattage and style of your vape. A MTL guy at 15 watts wants a lot more nic than a direct lung guy vaping at 50 watts. OTOH, you've answered your own question" if it isn't enough to still the cravings, you need more. Over time, you can cut it back, but don't get in a hurry so you get tempted to pick up a cig again. When you're first trying to quit, so long as the nic isn't making you sick== headache, nausea, the shakes, etc-- you're in the right spot. New quitters tend to hold on to the vape like a life preserver and hit it like it was going to be outlawed tomorrow. No worries if you are; I did, and everybody does.

Another hint: you can probably buy nic levels up to 24mg or so in the same flavor you have now. You can mix them by volume to adjust the nic level. That is, a bottle of 3mg and a bottle of 12mg mixed gives two bottles of 7.5mg and so forth.

THANK YOU ALL so much!!!! I have an Eleaf Ikonn 220w/50A output. My tank is a Cleito EXO 80w.

Welcome to the ECF family.
3mg is not high enough. Is your tank a Aspire Nautilus? Tell us the name of your mod and it's wattage, and name of tank. Eleaf and Aspire have many products, need to know which you have to better help you.:)
