Hello ECF,

So a little history... Been vaping for about 3-4 months and love it. I currently use a Pro-Vari Mini with a JonBoy Lava Tank. I am familair with cartos/clearos and just recently purchased a dripping atomizer. Each delivery method I enjoy a whole bunch but am looking to expand my vaping knowledge.

I want to delve into the world finally of rebuildable atomizers. I am not that handy of a person and how to wrap coils, hotspots, wicks, all the lingo is just foreign to me and difficult to understand. I do love my carto tanks but I hear rebuildable attys are the ultimate vape. My questions are as follows.

1. A relatively cheap/reliable rebuildable to get me started, don't want to spend the big bucks yet until I get the whole system down.
2. A link to some videos on how to wrap coils or helpful advice, what coils to use and what are hotspots and how to fix them. Also what size coil... I hear 1mm, 2mm and don't know the difference at all.
3. Any and all tips you can give me I would greatly, greatly appreciate it. I love this community, you guys have taught me so much already and I want to keep learning and improving my vaping experience. Officially off analogs for 4 months and 2 days and it feels great.

Thanks guys/gals. You keep this vaper ever intrigued...

Ty for the advice, any others? I don't mind cheap rebuildables to start, but want one thats pretty decent as well. Im guessing how you wrap your coils are probablly the biggest factor. I have been looking at the odyseeus v2. Seems solid and a good place to start, are these as badass as people say they are?

I have an Ithaka not really impressed for the price I paid in the buy/sell section. I don't have any Oddys or Oddy's clones yet sorry. You will always be able to drop big bucks on the original, so get a clone first. Here we have tons of info about. Start it from the end though, its huge.

It's probably easiest to start with a dripper style. Like an igo-l or nimbus clone. As far as genesis style goes, the cobra or rsst are good to start with. AGAT+ is also nice, but can be a bit harder to start with.

Edit-

Posting so that you can access the link under my signature. It's listed as "iHybrid Wiki" but extends to other models of genesis RBAs. It is a good resource if you are thinking of getting into gennys. IMHO if you are patient and willing to make some mistakes, you will learn any rebuildable technique. I would also recommend having a multimeter on hand to check the ohms on your coils (home depot or lowes carry them) and beginning a mesh wick using cigarette paper. Wrapping A Genesis Atty Using Rolling Paper - YouTube -- I like silica and genesis, but find that the genesis are kind of "set it and forget it" for me. I don't have to do anything but wrap a new coil after a week or so and only make a new wick about 1x a month (if that). There is a method of making mesh wicks without oxidizing called the Peter K method, which I plan on trying soon The Petar K Method - YouTube Have Fun and Be Safe!

Silence, best piece of advice if you are just getting into rbas: be very, VERY patient, relax and enjoy the learning curve, took me some good two months playing with my first genesis to get things down

Easiest and cheap to get you started; RSST, it's wick hole is isolated and the bottom of the coil rests in a plastic cup, nits very hard to get a short or hotspot on it (the latter you can still have if your coil is too loose or too long between wick and center post). Still, it's a nice little beginner device

Also any other genesis where you use silica instead of SS mesh will ease the transition.

For wicks I prefer ss mesh, 2 mm unoxidized (easy on the RSST), or now and then 3mm silica (almost never though).

Exhalevapors has some good prices after discount on the RSST, ss mesh is cheap at steammonkey and kanthal you buy at eBay in 100ft rolls for less than 10 bucks

Also many, myself included, find the very best to be dripping, but genesis type rba are more convenient, some others prefer bottom feeding (I myself plan on getting a bottom feeding device device at a later time, but I just bought two devices and now I have my eyes set on a Precise ELA)

Good thing you have a provari as I do, you can short the bejesus out of one and that thing will just reset for 3 to 5 secs and then keep going. Rock solid Safety features is my fav feature of the provari (no kidding here, mine has seen well above 100 shorts during my first few days with rbas on an Aga-t)

Oh! Leaves sub-ohm and dual coil stuff for a later time.

Great advice from you all! And yes I have a feeling I will have to be very patient as this all seems so much to take in. But I am willing to learn and do indeed like dripping, but I am also lazy and like having a tank as I work 60+ hours a week and can't really be dripping at work. I will look up some videos and try a RSST, seems like a good place to start. I hope I can catch on and learn so I can teach the girlfriend. Recently got her into vaping and I need to be on top of my knowledge game, =). And Dhomes, I also have my eye on the precise +. I want to learn rebuildables, then the next step is the world of mech mods.

O. RSST and. Provari, few quick tips:
- 7.5 cms x 4 cms of 500 mesh is all you need for a good wick I roll mine around a syringe needle then keep rolling and crolling with my finger for 4 or 5 mins more ( to tighten the wick)

Still with the needle inside, put it in the wick hole, wrap 3 or 4 wrap of kanthal 32 or 4 or 5 of kanthal 30 attach top of coiL to center post (it's spring load so no need for screwdrivers), then remove the needle

I keep the needle in there until the last moment so the wick stays stiff and also while I roll I keep the wick vertical with one of my fingers

You can do this again without oxidizing if you are one RSST, if the wick is not touching the positive post ( and the wick hole is isolated and so is the bottom) the. The mesh has no negative or positive charge, just fire the provari a couple times starting with a low voltage, make sure the coils glow evenly, then fill with liquid
