I'm brand new to this. I have NO freakin idea where to start. Lol. I've been smoking cigs for about 20yrs, and would like to switch to something safer. I never knew there were so many options on ecigs. I smoke Marlboro lights. Can someone please point me in the right direction as far as what to buy and please remember that I don't know any of the lingo. From what I've read already, I should stay away from the ecigs sold at my local gas station. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you

Welcome to the ECF BK. 1st I will tell you that the ones that look like a cig do work but only hold a charge for about 2 or 3 hours at a time. Each battery only has around 300 charges and then you need a new one. If you decide to go with one that looks like a cig I would recommend this one. If you are willing to go with something a little bigger like the size of a sharpie marker let us know and we can put together a kit for you with that. If you go with the cig alike kit I would recommend getting an extra battery so you have 3.

You're not lost, you found us! ;) I smoked for 40 years and if I can figure it out, I'm sure you can too! Let's see, where to start...

1) Yes, stay away from gas stations, unless you're in a jam (then always buy them instead of a pack of cigarettes!) It's not that the gas station ones are horrible themselves, but they are over-priced, the batteries don't last vary long, and the juices don't taste that great.

2) You will get tons of excellent suggestions for kits you should buy. We don't want you to spend a lot of money on the learning curve, however the learning curve is unavoidable.

3) To narrow things down, tell us more about yourself:

Are you looking for something the size and shape of a cigarette, or do you not care?
Do you like to "fiddle" with things, take them apart, etc.?
Are you the type of person who would like to get your feet wet with something easy, knowing that you might outgrown it, or do you want the Best of the Best right off the bat no matter the cost?

I'll probably have more questions, but I imagine you'll have several responses before I finish typing this.

Welcome BK272... here's a good link for what to start with written by Baditude: What kit to start with?

I believe new members have to have 5 posts before they can read the blogs. Makes total sense doesn't it? So post away BK, get your numbers and visit the blogs. I am a BIG fan of Baditude!

Welcome BK272 !!!
You've come to the right place-and the wrong place.
Everyone here can help advise you about Vapping- and everyone here has personal opinions....
And you know-opinions are like belly buttons' everyone has one !

I offer mine.... Get an eGo-C kit with 1000 milli amp hour batteries (mah). It comes with two complete pen style (slightly larger than cigs) vapping units. That is the battery, the cone, the atomizer, and the cartrage (mouthpiece) that you put your ejuice in.
These are the most popular brand, they are a very good starter kit, they can be refilled easily, easy to carry day-to-day and use.
All of the components are standards- you can grow with this kit by using (a bunch of things you don't know yet) cartomizers, Clearomizers, tanks ect... The kit comes with a battery charger and each battery is good for about 8hrs vapping time.
Then, all you need is some ejuice, that's PG/VG-nic and flavorings- your good to Vape !
Suggest you get some 18mg (nic), 50/50 ( ratio of PG to VG) ejuice inthe flavor of your choice. (I like 'coffee' in the morning, switch to fruit Flavors like Peach, butterscotch latter)- found the 'bacco' Flavors are nasty tasting.

We wish you all the Best !!!- anything else, just ask.
Vape On !

What he says. Its still a bit technical in this video though

I hadn't watched the whole video before I posted it. I agree with you. Why is he talking about resistance already?

ETA: That video really is out there! I'm overwhelm watching it! Forget I posted it.

Tasteyourjuice.com has some awesome reviews and recommended items. Phil is probably the most professional set up reviewer out there.

I'm a big fan of his videos, but I think this one is too advanced for people completely unfamiliar with e-cigs. I was hoping he would make one like Doctor Vapor. I like the Doc, but many of his "beginner" videos suggest outdated gear and in the most recent one he ran out of time before he got to the eGo.

I was in your position 5 months ago. I did a little reading and just picked one and started...more of a whim than anything else. I know I'm not an expert, but I've learned so much just by getting started and trying different things like cartomizers, clearomizers, yada, yada...all that technical stuff. In many respects, the juice hunt has been harder than the equipment. Everyone has their favorites, and sometimes we are partial to what got us off of cigarettes. My point is, just make the best decision you can and get started...and remember that in the end everything is disposable.
