Many people came to vaping from a place of smoking, but some people came to escape *other* compulsive habits.

I was able to quit smoking over seven years ago --- and even before that, my smoking habit never got out-of-control like most people's do. I was one of those so-called "occasional smokers" before I quit entirely. However, I had other compulsive habits that were completely beyond my control that were quite problematic. My hair got very messed up because I was unable to keep my hands out of it -- Eben at times when keeping my hands out of my hair was kinda important. I also was unable to hold a full-length umbrella without swinging it around like some kind of a baton. The list goes on and on.

Ever since I started vaping, though (and in case you haven't guessed, I vape zero-nicotine juices only) I have finally been able to get these compulsive habits under control.

I am just wondering if there are other people who, like me, came to vaping, not for a reprieve from smoking, but for a reprieve from *other* life-wrecking compulsive behaviors?

I started vaping just to quit smoking. I now vape compulsively whenever I'm at the computer (at home AND at work), watching a movie, talking on the phone, driving, walking or drinking. Sometimes even when sitting on the John. I guess this is the opposite of what you wanted to hear...
Vaping on the can. Nice. Me too lol

I have depression, general anxiety disorder and PTSD, so anything that focuses me is a god send. I find it helps keep the hands from shaking too much, I also play video games for the same reason. Vaping helps calm me down, keeps the goblins in my head from going nuts. lol. Also, nicotine.

I use to have the really disgusting habit of biting my nails. Even I realized how terrible it was  . Now however I have kept away from cigarettes and my nails for quite some time :)
I wish vaping had been an effective way for me to stop my nail biting... however that takes fake nails for me, lol. I've been able to go without fake nails for periods of time before, but only after my real nails have grown past the "awkward point" (past the beds, but not past the finger tips)... and all progress vanished when in super stress mode. However, I haven't really tried since completely giving up the cigarettes, so I might be a new year's resolution next year.

I cant leave my home without a knife, flashlight and keys. Sometimes I cant even be in a different room than those items for more than a few minutes. Yes, I need my house keys on my person...even when I'm already in the house. I'm always looking around me when out in public. Makes it hard to hold a 1 on 1 conversation with people. And I'm a defensive driver, to the point I'd need to be sedated/restrained to ride as a passenger with most people who would otherwise consider themselves safe drivers.

I also was unable to hold a full-length umbrella without swinging it around like some kind of a baton.
Pfft, that's a habit that needs to be encouraged...well except when riding the bus or subway I guess.

Me too, I very rarely stop except to sleep occasionally.

I am bi-polar, very well controlled by medication. But I do get stressed and/or depressed occasionally. I found smoking really helped me and every time I tried to stop in the past I thought I was going to end up in a psychiatric hospital.

Vaping is absolutely perfect for me. The switch over was so easy - I'm still amazed by that because I had tried just about everything in the past. Vaping fills the 'need' or whatever for me and I really love it and am so grateful to the guy that introduced me to this wonderful world of vaping.
