A thought plunked into my head (a practically audible plunk) after reading through a lot of these threads.

In one thread, someone mentioned the price of the Kick being about $45 and that they've purchased motherboards (computer) for similar costs. So it had me thinking...

I'm sitting here staring at my computer, thinking about how I always use it to charge drained batteries, or plugging in a pass-through battery to vape while I'm surfing the webs. The Kick is basically a tiny computer (albeit with a very simple purpose in comparison). Why not use MY computer?

With so many things using the USB as a charger/passthrough, how hard could it be to use the computer itself to adjust settings, obviously provided that the PV had the capability to read them, and even possibly store them for vaping on the go? Has anyone seen a device like this? Thought of a device like this?

Plugging your pv into the computer to charge, via USB, then having a small program that you can open with a click. See ohms on screen, see charge level, set voltage, set watts, puff counter, store settings... Hell, even a vape game (although I'd probably use 0 nic for something like that, talk about a gaming buzz).

Just a thought.

Oh, patent pending... lol.

First you would need a bit of low level c++ type programming to get to the usb port and controls... Then not sure if it has the "smarts" to measure resistance of the atomizer coil head, you could probably vary voltage a bit, but usb 2 standard is 5v... Worst case you would blow out your usb port on the motherboard... I thought about it for a bit, then just bought a $20 vv usb passthrough ... LOL

There's an app for that.

Happen to know the name of the app?

The intention wasn't to necessarily have voltage run back and forth through the PV (other than current to charge the battery), but to simply control settings on the PV through the computer, and read information from the PV on the computer. Don't think you'd want the current from firing a PV to go back through the USB port.

First thing comes to my mind, Arduino. USB controllable microprocessor / data link. Very possible. I have a few of them, even with bluetooth module. Same could be done wirelessly with an Android phone as easy as with a PC. Too much detail to go into here.

Sorry. I was just kidding about the app. :(

As for using the USB port, it is how pass-through PVs work, so I wouldn't see the harm in using it that way, although I would never personally do it. Why risk shorting out a $1000 computer for a $25 PV?

With that said, I think it would be possible and safe to use a PCI or PCI-E slot to do this, as it can handle the 2-way traffic.

Since everything else is updated with a WIFI module, why not have PV manufacturers make them with a WIFI option? That way my laptop can communicate with any PV for setting Voltage, Wattage, reading batt status, resistance, puff count, etc. It's rather simple to make an application for the laptop, or even an android with that functionality, given that all manufacturers adhere to the same communication protocol.

Lets come up with a nice name for that protocol.

I mean, who doesn't want to have a Provari with a WIFI option? Huh...
