Hi DC,

Congratulations on your choice of a Wacom tablet, these things really rock !

Just wanted to mention about the tablet being absolute, if you have Wacom software installed, you should be able to change this. As far as I know, there should be a choice between it being absolute or like a regular mouse.

The more expensive tablets have more options like, the pen tip being sensitive so that you can change the pressure (ie; lighter or darker stroke), an 'eraser' at the back, and some (like mine; the Intuos3), have various buttons that you can program to your liking.

And then there is the mother of all tablets, now that is really cool (but totally unaffordable 8-o !) !

cool silver, i'll have a further probe and see what i can change, just did the quick tutorial that loads after the install and it didn't mention a relative option so I didn't think it was possible. hopefully it's not just for the expensive models.

the one I got is the bamboo - one of the new cheap range that goes for around £55 - not a bad deal. it's got the pressure sensitive nib (and the eraser) which is why i got it really, should help to render things more naturally and quicker.

that "mother of all" looks sweet, I saw scott adams make one his dilbert strips on one of those once. pricey is right though! I'd say your arm is going to get tired fast too. you would want a good stool to come with it.

hey silver, I found that option to change the pad to "mouse mode". works great and makes it a lot more useful for now but i'm sure both modes will have their benefits.

just wondering too, with the intuos range ,will the tablets sense the tilt, bearing and rotation of the pen. I noticed in some of my apps, there are parameters for these options but when I set them, they do nothing. I think with my model, it only senses the pressure. You think I can just get a better pen or would I have to upgrade to one of the intuos range.

I guess I'm trying to figure out what the difference is between the bamboo and the intuos range. Thought it might have been just the software that comes bundled with them and the look but perhaps it is the pen's ability too. It's hard to figure it out from their web-site.

Hi Dc,

Great that you found the option in the software, I'm sure it will be useful to you.

I do think that if you want the more advanced options, you will have to choose a more elaborate model of tablet. If I understand things correctly the Bamboo series is not really for serious work that requires a graphic pen, more for casual users. I could be mistaken about this, but it is the impression I got when I was doing my research into these devices.

You might want to use the Bamboo for a while to see which kind of options are important to you. This will help you decide if you do need a more advanced tablet and if so, what options it should have, thus helping you make a good choice.

I hope all this makes some sense as I'm rather flustered at the moment. My hubby had a rather nasty fall today and damaged his knee (which has a prosthesis), possibly rather seriously. We are on vacation at the moment and this happened on a track (leading to Cathedral Cove, of Narnia fame, unfortunately it happened about 3/4 of the way down so we never did get to see it ). Long day, great rescue services and excellent care in the hospital in Thames, but I am totally bushed ! Back at our accomodation at the moment where I will be packing up our stuff tomorrow and following him when he is transported to the hospital in Hamilton for further examination and probably surgery.

Because of all this, I'm not sure when I'll be able to browse the forum again so I do apologise in advance if my response to any messages/questions is delayed.

no worries silver, I hope your hubby gets good treatment and recovers fast, that sounds awful and a great deal of bother, please don't worry about answering my Q's. I should really be asking them on other forums but I guess I have found that such a diverse range of the population are e-cig fans, there seems to be someone here who has an answer for everything.

But you are right, they do market the bamboo for casual users and the intuos for serious users, but they don't exactly explain the differences other than saying this. I guess I would like to configure the options so that the pen will work as a calligraphic pen so that by rotating it, the width of the stroke will change etc. It seems like the options in my app allow for this but changing them does not affect the stroke. I think it might only respond to pressure.

If you get a chance, can you tell me with your intuos range, can you affect the the stroke by altering the tilt/bearing/rotation of the pen in apps that cater to it?

But I'm in no hurry and I'm sure I'll figure it out with a bit of searching so please don't think you need to respond. hope it goes well and all the best !

My new mouse arrived and is up and running. So far it's working well but it's a bit clunky compared with my wee car one. It's better to not be on a wire though.

Now my keyboard has started playing up ... I've ordered another

I'm sure it's not as bad as this analog smokers keyboard...

That's funny Chris, what a state!

My keyboard looks quite smart in comparison but it keeps losing connection and I have to wiggle the wire around every time I move it.

Hmm so it's a wired keyboard then? Perhaps the wires are coming loose inside the keyboard, if so it's pretty easy to open up and fix. Not sure how mechanical you are. Then again it's also pretty cheap to get a new one, depends on how attached you are I guess

I fixed a keyboard with a loose wire once and it lasted all of five minutes. I'd have a go but there is one on its way so I'll see if I like it.
