Ok..What I am hearing is that all this money Mike just spent on this widescreen monitor was for nothing? Great! As for external speakers..I have a pair already from my old computer, but don't they have to be plugged into my screen? It has only 1 jack plug in. But my new tower has 6 jacks plug ins..all color coded. I am using the light green one because that was the one that matched the end of the jack that goes into the computer. I am now wondering if I had to match the color of the jack plug in?
Did I mention I hate this crap! I am not eletronicly gifted.

Liscab, This is a brand new tower..I ghosted over all my old stuff from my old computer, the computer guy cleaned it up first of course. The screen is new too!

I do agree heavily on an external hard drive, I picked us up a 60 G for about 20$. Sorry about the speakers, I have a Thinkpad that has amazing sound on board but when we watch something on it is gets plugged into the external speakers!

I cannot count how many times I have reformatted our laptops (we have a few). I called it Tabula (fill in the blank with your epitaph of choice, lol) Rasa :D

Yes, MK, use the old speakers. However, I don't know how you access the controls for them, you may have to use an install disk if they came with one. Should be plug and play, however. Are you using Windows XP or something else? The controls would be in you OS. But the screen?? Forget it, I can't help with that either. Made all my pictures squashed. I never did figure it out. We sold it the first day and went back to the "Old" style, and they are harder to find now.
They're great if you watch a lot of movies, etc., and are geared fine for surfing. Oh god, that word! Glad you're back up and running. We've done that a few times, now, it does take forever to get everything reset and re-installed and working again.

Well, I've been back up and running again. The laptop was not wanting to run on electric...something inside was going bad. I'd been nursing it along by placing something under the cord at the connection. That's worked for several weeks, but two nights ago that wasn't even working.

If you've read my post in Wrecked and Bonkers, you'll know I had a stressful day at the V.A. And since it was Thursday, I had to take my brother-in-law to the weekly dinner at a local bar/grill. Needless to say, when I got home, I wasn't in the mood to futz with my desktop. I pleaded and prayed for the laptop to work off electricity just long enough to check e-mail and, of course, this forum. IT DID!!!! (The battery runs down so fast so I didn't want to rely just on it.)

Took the task of getting my desktop set up in my living room. I'd had it in my spare bedroom, but never liked working on it in there. I made room for the processor where it's not really noticeable. However, my monitor is sitting on the stool that matches my easy chair. One cool thing about this setup is that I can actually read the forum from a bit of a distance (the monitor is a nice sized one.)

Naturally, the move wasn't a piece of cake. For some reason, I couldn't connect to the internet. First call went to my service provider and my modem was working correctly. Second (and several redials) were to the computer manufacturer...no answer. So, I bit the bullet...saved pics and the like on a portable drive...and reformatted and reloaded the PC. It's a good thing my career was as a technical writer for software applications, because these things still aren't made for the average person!!!!!

Maybe now that I'm back in biz, I can calm down a little:D

P.S. My brother-in-law ordered me a glass of wine last night since I was so keyed up. Good thing we were having dinner because I don't drink often...last drink was probably 8 months ago...because I got a buzz right away!!!
