OK this has happened 3 times I leave my computer that I have went to bed and left my browser on ECF all night. It does not happen if I leave it on say yahoo home page all night.

When I wake up my computer say a virus has been detected and prompts me to buy some AV service. If I click it off it pops right back up then if I go to msconfig it says it is infected as well as task manager. Luckily I work on computers and it is pretty easy to get rid of but I can only wonder how many people fall for this and purchase their software. Honestly it makes me pretty mad. I call it the ultra spam.

Advice to all Windows users make sure you know how to boot into safe mode as well as how to use msconfig and taskmanager. It could save you from reformatting you harddrive in a lot of situations.

it sounds like you have an actual virus, and it is not an ad. sounds very much like "windows antivirus 20xx"

a very prevalent virus that almost everyone gets at least once. i have taken it off of MANY friends machines before.

i suggest installing and running malwarebytes scanner (i use the free version), it is one of, if not, the best scanner on the net. check it out

Malwarebytes

i deal with this virus often with my end-users. In fact my father got hit with it a few days ago. (& paid the 50$ for the app, cause he didn't want to bother me. /shrug)

Download:
ComboFix
Marlwarebytes
CCleaner

Restart computer, tap F8 for safe mode.
Run ComboFix in SafeMode and follow instructions.
Let it reboot, then run malwarebytes "Quick Scan"
Run CCleaner and clear out your temp files and clean your registry
Run Malwarebytes "Full Scan"

Virus should be removed at this point. If not, PM me.

(This can all be done outside of "SafeMode" but use safemode if you can. )
