confused about the new tax

before april I was paying $2.00 for my cuban like cigaerette (competidora)(usualy call chest breaker) i april it reach 3.00, but now in july it reach 4.59 why? just one dollar tax and they increase 1.59

maybe the mfg raised the price as well? I've seen 'em do that some around here - mfg increase price at same time (or around same time) as a tax hike. There was also a federal tax hike not too long ago (the one that Obama signed that also increased tax on roll your own tobacco by 2000%), but not sure exactly when it kicked it.

Most likely the case or a state tax as well but the manufaturer is going to see less volume with the higher tax so in order to either keep from going under or laying off people they have to raise prices. They drop health care for their employees but now with the tax the low income kids get free health care! Their parents are out of a job but the kids are our future. /sarc
