Confused about what cartomizer to buy??

I am looking to buy cartomizers for my Cartomizer tank unit. Below is a picture of what I am using.

I am looking at smoktek, but there are so many cartos to choose from.

What is the ohm difference? 1.5, 2.0, 3.0 ohms.....I believe I am using a standard 3.7 amp battery. Does the ohm amount mean anything??

Single coil vs. dual coil?? Does it matter?

I am just looking for an inexpensive cartomizer that will provide good vapor. Till now I have been using our local brick-and-mortar vendor who sells 1 cartomizer (as seen in my image) for $10. There has to be a cheaper online alternative as they only last about 1 week.

Thanks for any help you can provide and I will do my best to answer any questions I may need to provide to get a good decision.

Standard 3.7 volt batt, go with a low res carto...the one for that tank looks like you will need the smoketech DC 1.5 ohm, or 2 ohm those will work for you...resistance is the wire size. with only 3.7 volts you need a thinner wire "like a 1.5 or 2 ohm carto" to get a nice TH and flavor. Thick wire like 2.5 or 3 ohm takes higher voltage to heat up. Good Luck

So the ohm measurement has to do with the resistence which is related is the thickness of the filament inside the cartomizer?

Thanks.

The lower the number of ohms the warmer the vape will be. Low resistance cartomizers are not recommended for batteries rates at less than 450mah. I have used both single and dual coil cartomizers on an ego type battery like the one shown in the op and wasn't very impressed with the performance.

My battery is 750mah.......do you think that the single coil is sufficient with the battery I am using? I imagine that the dual coil carto would need more power to function properly??

A single coil is sufficient on that battery. The dual coil's work well too. You may or may not like the dual coil, or you may not notice a difference. For that setup I would recommend 2 ohm. You don't have to buy the ones with the flange and pre cut hole like these ones: Tank Replacement Dual Coil Cartomizers, 2.0 ohms. Just make sure you get stainless. You can use a saddle valve ($7 at home depot) to punch the hole, and the flange at the bottom of the carto is handy, but not necessary. You do need xl (or mega) size cartos, standard size ones are too short. The 1.7 Ohm carto's found here (commonly referred to as Resurrectors): Smok Tech Stainless 1.7 ohm 510 Mega Cartomizer are an excellent choice. You just have to punch the hole yourself. There are many Youtube videos on this.

Also, I would shop around for cartos. You can probably find 5 packs for $7 or 8. I know CCV sells the black ones, and you can peel the black stickers off, clean the adhesive off, and you have a stainless carto. I think they are out of stock at the moment, but they sell 15 for $22 with free shipping.

Good Luck!

The battery you have should be sufficient for most cartomizers. The reason I was unimpressed with the dual coil carto is because it wasn't consistent. The reason I experienced that though could be a couple different things such as the carto its self was more or less garbage from the factory or my battery was almost dead.

Thanks AJ,

Curious, why not buy cartos with pre-drilled holes? Do they normally screw em up and either flood the carto (too big a hole) or do you end up sucking like crazy cause they are too small??

Not sure I want to worry about it, but if it makes a difference, I'll think about it.

Simply because they are more expensive. Then again, if you were paying $10 per carto, then $2.29 is a steal even with shipping.

The hole can be too small if using high VG content juices, but I have found 80/20 PG/VG to work just fine with the small hole.

OK got it.....Now, AJ, does the saddle valve come with just the right sized drill/pin to make the correct-sized hole, assuming you only want to "just" puncture your carto and not reem it in??

Also, removing the black-sticky from black cartos..I would assume this is so you do not clog your hole when you punch it with glue/sticker......just curious.

Thanks and as you can see, I have been vaping for a while but have not delved into the DIY stuff...LOL

The saddle valve has a needle that was designed to puncture copper pipe, and the size of the hole depends on how deep you screw it in. So after some trial and error, you will learn exactly how many turns it takes. For me I turn it 1.5 times after I hear the pop of the SS being punched. If you go too deep you will pierce the inner airway tube of the carto, which causes problems. Also make sure that the saddle valve is tightened all they way down, or the needle can slip off to the side and deform the carto. I have been told that the saddle valve will only punch 10 or 15 cartos before it dulls, and I have only punched maybe 10 cartos. Mine is still working fine. COV sells a good carto punch for $40, but I haven't decided if I want to spend that much quite yet. I probably will at some point though.

You need to remove the black sticker for several reasons. I wouldn't want any of the adhesive mixing with my juice, The sticker increases the overall diameter of the carto, and I have found it is too thick to use in a tanks, and yes, the sticker could cause clogging issues in the hole.

We were all new at this at one point, and I am still learning tips and tricks, and trying new things. Use common sense and don't be afraid to ask, and you will soon find your perfect vape!

I use a dremel to slot cartos that I put in tanks but you have to be really careful not to cut too deep or it will just drain the juice out of the tank

I have heard many people say a dremel works well, I just don't have one, nor do I need one for anything else. I have also heard people say that you can get metal shavings in the carto, and that can cause issues. The saddle valve is cheap, simple, and works for me, until I feel like spending the extra $$ on a better punch.

To each his own...

I like boges. They last a long time and do a good job and if you let it get a little dry it won't burn a hole in the polyfill like smoktechs will. They require less mothering. If you don't have a high voltage device you don't need to be using dual coil cartos. You just won't get the hit they are designed to put out on a 3.7v device.

as for resistance, this should help. The lower you can go, within the safe zone, usually the better.
