Ok so I recently bought a 306 bridgeless online and it was super leaky. Was limited to only a drop at a time, because anything else I would drip in there would just go out the air holes and all over my PV. So I ordered from a different vendor this time, and got 2 Smoketech 510 bridgeless attys.

Theres a big difference between the two though, and I need some advice here lol. When I looked down into the 306, it was just a coil down there, with some (faulty) insulation around the sides, so it was simple enough for me to realize "just drip in there" (first time dripper). With the smoketech though, theres a little world down in there and I don't know what I'm looking at. Heres an image

Is all of that stuff ok to vape? Where do I drip in that thing? Should I remove some stuff? It just looks like plastic-y/filler stuff that would diminish taste, but dripping is supposed to be the best flavor possible. Help a noob out?

Straight down the middle. The fibers in the center are the wick.

Hey Johnnie,

Here is what you're looking at in the photo. The steel mesh around the outside holds the coil/cup in place. The white stuff in the center is a just a silica wick. The silica wick runs thru the coil; with the excess folded over the top of the coil. The steel mesh holds a bit of juice, but the silica's primary purpose is to keep the coil wet with juice when properly filled.

To answer your question "Is all of that stuff ok to vape?" Well...many in the vaping community will say yes; however I say no. I personally will never vape anything with silica. There are dangers associated with silica and if you search the forum you'll have lots to read.

You'll often read about people de-wicking atomizer. I no longer use conventional atomizers, but when I did, I would remove the silica wick. Using a magnifying glass and a pair of tiny tweezers, I would gently remove the wick from the coil; rinse and dry thoroughly. I would use the magnifying glass to ensure that no strands were left behind. The result of de-wicking an atty makes vaping tricky. You'll need to drip just enough juice to wet the coil; anything more will flood it. Too little juice will leave you with a "dry hit".

Delivery systems (Carto's, atty's, clearomizers) are open to debate and everyone has an opinion and has a personal preference. Please proceed with caution, because many of these systems use silica and it is nothing to play with... It is essentially microscopic strands of brittle glass; something I don't want in my lungs.
I've completely migrated to using rebuildable atomizers. RBA's share the same concept as conventional atomizers, but I love them because I'm in control of how many ohms (coil thickness/length) and the wick media I use. I use cotton instead of silica for wicking material. I hope this helps...
