I have been vaping for almost a year with ego-c twist variable batteries. As I went to order a few more, I came across a lot of articles talking about the safety issues with ecig batteries. I've done my best to read through them and educate myself on the best options out there. Unfortunately many were way above my head and targeted to those building their own mods (and way too long to get through due to my a.d.d.). I'm not interested in making my own. I'm hoping to find the best, powerful yet safest option comparable to my current batteries, the ego-c twist variables (used at full power 4.7v).

I don't want to have to worry about my battery blowing up in my hand or burning down my house! So, with so many pro vapors in one place, I'm hoping for some great recommendations on my options!

The MVP2 is a great option to the Twist or Spinner. It is a box mod but smaller than you think. It's a tried and true device with many people having one and recommending them. It's a variable voltage, like the Twist/Spinner, and variable wattage, a set it and forget it option. 101vapes has it for around $39 for the black/blue/silver. Complete vapes has the shine edition for around $45. The shine is a dressed up version of the one from 101vapes.

The State of Confusion
Well where to start:

If you are using factory battery cartridges with factory atomizers you are pretty safe.

If you are wanting to step up (your mod) use anything or brand that uses "safe" circuitry...

Many "mods" that are Variable Voltage offer this: The Provari fro Provape is one, yes it is a bit more expensive than some, but it has a proven track record for safety.

Most of the newer VV mods will simply either stop working or burn out your atomizer, rather than explode.

Remember: Always use the recommended batteries that the mod manufacturer recommends, ALWAYS!

Other than the above the choices are so vast...

If you get a replaceable battery mod like a vamo, zmax, svd, tesla, e-lvt, you then buy 18650 batteries (and a charger) which are like flashlight batteries.

Anytime you feel suspicious about a battery you get rid of it without having to toss the whole device.

You also get the choice to buy safer chemistry IMR batteries instead of the types marketed as 'protected' batteries; the 'protected' batteries have a built in chip to keep them from going kaboom on you because they are unsafe chemistry batteries.

This was the main reason I switched from ego type batteries last year also; I'd had 1 incident where my ego type battery got hot and I dropped it to the floor saw some smoke and watched it basically die over a period of a few minutes and there was nothing I could do; I couldn't disconnect the battery inside it because it's not like a flashlight battery where you can just pop it open and take out the battery. So once something shorts out inside that ego battery tube thing, there's nothing you can do except just wait and watch and hope is just goes fizz for a few minutes instead of kaboom in a second.

+1 on the MVP v2

1. Huge (2600 mah) battery
2. Variable Voltage - Voltage can be adjusted from 3.3 ~ 5.0 in 0.1 volt increments
3. Variable Wattage - Wattage can be adjusted from 6.0 ~ 11.0 in 0.5 watt increments
4. Ohms Meter - Reads the resistance of your atomizer
5. Pass through ability
6. $40 shipped at many online stores

One more for the MVP 2.0. I have many different batteries.1 Kamry Bacchus 3800 mah, 2 MVP 2.0's, 3 Vision 2's 1650 mah, 3 Ego-T's, 2 Aspire CF VV's 1300 mah, some smaller ones I don't use much & many I got rid of including 3 mech mods. The best all around one I've ever had is the MVP.

Most, if not all of the problems with exploding batteries have been with mechanical mods. That's a tube with a battery and a switch and a 510 socket on the end. There's no electronics to control current draw and nothing to prevent meltdowns. The safest vape is an electronic mod with variable voltage/wattage and overcurrent protection built into the electronics. If you do something out of bounds, it will just flash a code and refuse to activate the atomizer.

Mech mods are commonly used by those who wish to blow huge clouds. They wind extremely low resistance coils and stress the batteries to 20 and 30 amps, modify the air flow to cool the vape at those current levels, and generally push the envelope. Your eGo is a tame animal compared to the ones that make the news with flames and explosions. :)

Most, if not all eGo mods have overcurrent protection built in. The eGo-C Twist generally limits you to 2.5 amps. Vape it and enjoy.

maybe this issue of the iStick 510 connector should be resolved before I'll recommend it (you have to fiddle with tank screwing it on and off or you get an error message on it) still looking for solutions today. But I want to love this iStick when it does work it's small up to 20 watts and fires up my V2 like no other battery I've got.

Love the MVP though..use Vision Spinners and I've not read where any of those have exploded...

if anything gets HOT stop using it, but your fears can be put to rest :)

I believe eGo type batteries are regulated and have safety features built in. As long as your battery can handle your resistance load, you should be fine. As far as blowing up hands and burning down houses, you probably have a greater chance of getting struck by lightning on a sunny day.

You guys are awesome! Thanks so much for the suggestions. I'm looking at the eleaf iStick and MVP2 now.

I typically get my batteries and kanger protanks from myvaporstore but I'm not seeing that they sell the ileaf. Any suggestions on the best online stores to get it (and vapor products in general)?

I can give these guys a big recommend Innokin iTaste MVP V2.0 - 101 Vape - Always got my order from California to Florida in 2 days!!!

Iv'e opened an ego-c once and let me tell you that battery didn't look like anything i would want to use.
When you buy an e-cig with a built in battery you never know what you're going to get.
If battery safety is your main concern, get a mod with replaceable batteries, buy IMR batteries from a good battery manufacturer like: AW, Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Efest, MNKE.
Make sure they are authentic.
If you ever plan to sub Ohm, only get 30 Amp batteries, if not 10 Amp will be fine too.

Not trying to be controversial but most of the issues with batteries that I've seen reported in the media have been ego style. Almost all were due to using the wrong charger.

In fact I can count on one hand the number of times I've seen a battery 'exploding' event that was a mechanical.
