Same old stuff.

Consumer Reports looks at pluses and minuses of electronic cigarettes | abc7news.com

Consumer Reports says there's another concern that's been raised about e-cigarettes: they could actually be a gateway that leads to the real thing. That's because these devices are easily available online to minors, and they come in enticing flavors like vanilla and pina colada.

Some day, a major news organization will do some actual research rather than quoting the same old bogus sources.

This is the version of the story that aired on my local station a week or so ago. What bothers me most is the fact that it doesn't even look like the reporters bothered to take the time to read the entire consumer reports article.

The funny thing about this is that when I tried to find a link to the original consumer reports article to post here, I noticed that the article itself seems to have changed. If you look at my reply to the news story you will see parts of the article that I copied and pasted in my reply. When I looked up the article today I noticed that the part I copied and pasted has been removed. It's almost as if the news media is purposely trying to avoid anything positive about vaping.

VERY Interesting and problematic implications
Brings to mind the famous movie quote
"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain"

Was your comment on the ABC page? If so, I couldn't find it... didn't mesh with the bias? lol

Way down on the bottom of the page:

Until there is some evidence showing that e-cigarettes do serve as a gateway, it is irresponsible reporting to repeat such an unfounded "concern." How would Consumer Reports feel about it if news reports expressed a concern that CR accepts bribes from manufacturers? Devastating accusation based on nothing more than conjecture.

Also sent a Letter to the Editor. They wrote back and said that they would be passing this on to the reporter.

In the May, 2012 issue your advice on e-cigarettes is, "You use them at your own risk." Is smoking less risky? During the past 3 years, nearly 1.5 million people have died from smoking-related diseases. There have been no deaths from inhaling e-cigarette vapor. During the years since I switched, my peak-flow meter reading went from 300 up to 450. My LDL went from 141 to 92, and HDL from 63 to 65. Gone are the morning cough, the wheezing that kept me awake at night, and embarrassing coughing jags triggered by laughing.
