So since I finally can say i can consistently wick my hellvape md and work as I want it with spaced coils I was goofing and said to build a contact coil
3mm ss316 10wraps I think 1.25ohms
And the thing is that as vape it makes a more bassy popping sound...
I don't get leaks of flooding or spitback tho Vapes ok but that sound it's wierd in any wattage ...ofc higher watt pops more

Also when I pulse it with juice and look at the coil I see that the vapor shoots out between the wraps differently.....it's not like the "fireworks" style that spaced coil shoot hahaha I don't know if u understand what I mean anyways

Do u guys tend to stuff more cotton into the coil if u make it contact? Is it normal it pops like that??? I mean in different sound...
I don't have time atm but I want to build a tool to make tensioned coils like mactechvpr shows
I wonder how that coil shoots the vapor as u use it

I also saw it was shooting vapor downwards to the airflow holes on the deck hmmmmmmmm....if that matters :D
If I pulse it without puff I can see some smoke come out of the outside airflow ring also hahahah anyways WIERRRRDDDDD

IME, any popping is generally due to too little wick, so maybe start there?

I'm rayon only, but don't do anything different between spaced and contact, same "squeaky" tight (necessary for rayon, cotton usually a little less) in both.

If you're getting vapor shooting out between the turns, then you've not made full contact between them. So it might be hot spots as well. You do have non-conductive tweezers, right? Using them, with a new build, gently squeeze the coil into a block, fire a couple seconds and let it cool before releasing the tweezers. May need to repeat that a couple times.

Tensioned microcoils are built with Kanthal wire, not stainless. I don't think SS is suitable for contacts. It would likely vape hot and not compatible with temp control. It doesn't build an alumina surface layer which helps isolate turns and balance the heat distribution of the element from end-to-end. So no, not the same thing.

Get a pin vise a common standard metric drill bit and you'll make some wonderful contacts. Or you can use a drill for thicker wire. Glad to help if I can.

Good luck and enjoy the vape. :)

It was firing evenly... And the cotton was same as I did always but tried also tighter rewick but same....I will keep working on it tho something don't feel right even tho I don't have spitback and vapes ok I just don't like the way it sounds :D

I made spaced coil last night that would pop so loud I though my mod or atty was blowing up. I never experienced that before. It would make me flinch in fear every time. It would only do it when the coil sat for a few minutes and got a bit cooled off and only on the first draw.

But after a couple tanks worth of juice or so, it went away. There's a little bit of popping sometimes, but not the make-me-fear-for-my-life kinda popping I was getting last night after I freshly installed it.

Today it just more like a crackling here and there. Nothing I haven't heard before.

My point? Your popping might go away, too.
