•An African bugleweed synthesises in its tissues a substance similar to the hormone that controls the development of caterpillars. If a caterpillar is persuaded, experimentally, to ingest that substance, then when it turns into a butterfly it will develop two heads and die.
why I picked it...a mutant caterpillar come on that's too cool...I'd love to frame one of these...it's to bad it makes them die :(

# Avocados have the highest calories of any fruit at 167 calories per hundred grams.

I picked this fact because I love avocados, but I didn't know they are a fruit. I did know that they were high in calories, due to their fat content. I also knew that the fat content is monounsaturated, similar to olive oil, making it very heart healthy. Monounsaturated fats lower bad cholesterol, while potentially raising good cholesterol. If used in moderation, despite being high in calories, avocados are a smart addition to a weight loss regime. They will satisfy appetite for longer periods due to the fat content.

Yay, avocados!

•One bushel of corn will sweeten more than 400 cans of pop.

I picked this one because I have a mistrust of High Fructose Corn Syrup. I think that most things should be sweetened with sugar. And while I understand that corn syrup is natural, the scientists have some idea that the HFCS bypasses the part of your brain that makes you feel full when you ingest food...

I do like corn syrup in pecan pie however :D

A Pineapple is a berry ??
That's NOT what I called it when I was 15 yrs old !! 8-o My parents built a second home on a large piece of property at that time. We were moving everything from one house to the other. My sister(who worked in a flower shop) had gotten me a Pineapple plant for a gift.:) It was really cool !! At least until we moved. I was being my typical self and stood in the back of the pickup with other boxes surrounding me holding my pineapple plant. When all of a sudden my mother did NOT avoid the bump in the gravel driveway and the truck bounced !!8-o:shock:8-o I wasn't ready for the load to shift of course and got thrown to the side, with the pineapple plant & it's SHARP leaves poking me right in the eye !!!8-o Oh how I wished I'd have had my MonkeyMomma Librarian glasses then for protection !! Needless to say, I called that plant something other than a BERRY !!! My eye was all bloody when we reached the new house & my mother had a fit !!:laugh: I will NEVER forget that day or that Pineapple plant :laugh:.....Ok, everyone WAKE UP, I'm done with this long story...sorry

•The largest single flower is the Rafflesia or "corpse flower". They are generally 3 feet in diameter with the record being 42 inches!

I picked this one because that would scare the heck outa me. How can they get so big. I feel as if it would eat me. Then it would get bigger. And the nickname? Corpse Flower? OMG could they pick a more scary name. Remind me never to go near one of these. I have to look where they grow and stay the heck away from there.

I have only heard of the corpse flower because they had one at the local Science museum a little while back. They only bloom every so often and it was a huge deal. The museam stayed open 24/7, they had streaming webcams and people came from all over to see it. The reason it is called a corpse flower...it smells like a rotting corpse!! That is the reason I will be avoiding this flower! No thank you!

Sorry, here is my response:
•The California redwood - coast redwood and giant sequoia - are the tallest and largest living organism in the world.

I have only seen pictures of these and would so LOVE to see them irl one day!! I think it is amazing how big they are!

"•Quinine, one of the most important drugs known to man, is obtained from the dried bark of an evergreen tree native to South America"
As well as being an important drug for preventing/treating Malaraia, it is also a major ingredient in Tonic Water. Which you mix with Gin. G&T? mmmmm. I wonder when V4L will come out with that flavour? And of course, Gin also goes very well in Martinis, along with a hint of vermouth. Mmm.

If this contest is still open, I would love to win them because I just got a KR808 batt last week and I have been dying to try the V4L cartos with it!! Plus the fact that I am a former Menthol smoker and used to smoke Nuports sometimes...

I picked: One bushel of corn will sweeten more than 400 cans of pop. because I stopped drinking anything with High Fructose Corn Syrup in it a long time ago, simply because it is bad for you... but I never realized just how cheap and plentiful it was to produce!!

Btw... we have one of those Corpse flowers here in Los Angeles, too, and every time it blooms it's on the news and people are lining up to see it... No thanks!!

I picked " In the Netherlands, in 1634, a collector paid 1,000 pounds of cheese, four oxen, eight pigs, 12 sheep, a bed, and a suit of clothes for a single bulb of the Viceroy tulip." out of all of them. It made me remember playing "The Oregon Trail" as a kid and now I need to find and play it again. Maybe this time I will not die of dysentery.
