Mr Gregory from 11th grade summer boarding school.
He was our group teacher/leader and also VP during the normal school year. For once, someone understood what I(most of us) was(were) going through, and really genuinely cared about each student. He had attended the school himself, and went through the rebel stage himself.
He wasn't a pushover (at all!) either. But after us kids got in trouble, did our punishment (usually running), he'd hang out and enjoy ice cream with us and chit chat. He led by example and seemed very wise.

1. Mr. Bill McCreary.

He was the Chair of the Science Dept at my High school. I had him for Oceanography in 11th grade. I was having a tough time at home and just in general. He became my mentor and helped me get through school. He was always available to talk. He seemed to know when something was bothering me even if I thought I was hiding it well. He was my savior and ended up becoming a life-long friend. We kept in touch after HS. He passed away a couple years ago and I still miss him all the time. He was one of my best friends, mentor, and very much a father figure.

This is a wonderful contest! Here's to remembering the people that helped shape who we are today!

#1) Mr. dennis
was my kindergarden teacher, and it was'nt that he was my favorite teacher so much as it was that I was his favorite student... He got to know my parents quite well and they let me go places with his family on the weekends like seaworld, disney, etc... He had 6 children of his own, and he had twins the year that I was his student, one of which he named after me!

ok, according to forum, this should be #49, and the 45th eligible post for the random generator.

my 5th grade teacher, ms austin, was the first teacher that ever pushed me. no, not shoved, lol ... but actually pushed me to do more than the minimum i needed to do to get by. being quite a bit smarter than the average of my classmates, i learned at a very young age that i could do just a little more than they did, and get by.

since ms austin went to the same church as my grandparents, and my grandfather was a math teacher turned administrator / principal ... they conspired to wake me up and get me thinking instead of coasting.

thanks for the brilliant contest idea!

Should one of my posts be the "winner" I will re run the generator.
I have to post once in a while - it gets lonely over in my other thread. :)

Mr. Hebert. I was assigned to his Algebra class by the luck of the draw and he inspired all his students to do better than they thought they could. He could explain anything so I could understand it. I went on to major in Mathematics at the University and even taught Math there after my Ph.D.
I'll never forget him and will always thank him for opening the world of unique possiblilties to me.
It's very ironic that the best teacher I ever had in 19 years of schooling was fired because he refused to wear a tie in the classroom. Ah, the sixties in the south

Ms.Carol. my 6th grade teacher was the best ever and if every teacher would have been like her I probly would have stayed in school. She hung out and played basketball with us every Thurs. In the school gym.wouldn't come to the court and hang out all the time and actually torture the person she was depending or shooting against.Which isn't much but you have to understand she was a 4. 1/2 ft little lady. And her pet peeve was if someone said the word shut up around her you had to write it 500 times on blackboard.....good lady but great teacher and friend.......go to all love the stories

Mrs silber....I used to get kicked out of all my classes for being a class clown and All the teachers assumed I was up to no good, even if I wasn't. She always gave me the benefit of the doubt and defended me. That made me want to behave and i'll never forget her for her positive and empowering energy.
And I'm not sure what post I am...I think 52....
Very sweet contest.

I am not sure what you meant by numbering your posts. This is my first post so far on this thread, and it is post #56 of the thread if that helps.

I had a teacher named Mr. Cole once (omitting the first name for privacy reasons). He was an amazing history teacher and also a football coach. The first day of school he decided that he didn't care what your name was and he gave you a very funny nickname based on what your real name sounded like. The one name that sticks out is there was this kid with the last name of Bagdonas, and he became "Bag o' Donuts". Mr. Cole was younger than the other teachers and had a great way of relating to the students and teaching in a way that actually made you care. The other cool part was that he was also an alumnus and was helping to carry on the proud tradition. Whereas before he was my teacher I couldn't have cared less about history, now I am a history buff in my spare time. Although I didn't get into history in college, I would have been alright with it if I had thanks to him. Meanwhile, now he is the #1 host of a local sports channel which is also cool. He's a local celebrity.

I posted this contest on the "Contest Thread"...So hopefully people will see it and come tell us about their wonderful teachers. :)

Sorry, I know this post kind of screws up the numbering...
Stalled with 50 posts to go? Not good.

BTW - FB page, waiting for 220 like for a 20% off coupon code.
Almost there.

Thanks for the contest!

I had a chem teacher in high school. To this day I still use some of the practices she taught me to get through the day, especially in school. I have ADD, or rather, unless I'm severely interested in what I'm doing, I usually start several other projects. For example, reading while standing up, I was able to still pace around and keep my motor skills occupied, while actually reading without skimming. Or, to study for no more than 15 mins. at a time, then taking 5 off. It's amazing what some of these little changes have accomplished. Most of all, though, she taught me that at the root of it all, it's all a little fascinating. Again, thank you for letting me pay tribute to an important person in my life, as well as the contest.
