It may not seem a big deal to everyone, but I had a teacher who let me borrow "Enders Game" once. At that point I had never read a book.. at least not by free will. I ended up reading that book, and from that day on I was in love with Orson Scott Card, and it brought me onto SciFi in general. I couldnt imagine not being a huge scifi fan nowadays.

I had a really cool art teacher for a couple of years in high school. He really helped all of us nerdy right brained kids learn to think out of the box. He taught us how to be more creative and train ourselves to use our left brains more. I think he really made a difference in my life at an important time. I learned a lot more than cool art techniques in his classes. I learned how to take it easy and appreciate the beauty in life.

I had some really great teachers in my years, in fact, every one of them was at my wedding!! Not that we live in a small town, but it's not Seattle either.
The one that stands out the most was my very first MAN teacher (Mr. Brewer). I was terrified. But he made sense with everything he taught. (that was back when they taught everything... not just things for kids to pass a state test). He was indeed a teacher I would never forget and always look up to. I later in my schooling met his son, who happens to be my age.
Then, not too long ago he came in to the store that I work in, and he STILL remembered me from way back when!! Now that's amazing! He still teaches!! He said if he ever retires, that'll be the end of him! YOU KNOW he loves his job!!

I LOVE CHIT CHAT !!!! LOL! and actually have another thread for it but I would not mind one bit if there was chit chat in this thread BUT - there is always a BUT - there are some who feel chat posts throw off the odds of winning.
Not sure if it does or not but it at the very least keeps the thread moving.

While I thought this thread was a good idea it is not getting the attention I thought it would.
Bad time of the year I guess - people get busier.

So just the one post will be fine, this thread will be over soon enough and I can think of something that may move along faster for the players.

I was a teacher once - I taught Catechism for 9 years to 6 and 7 year olds.
The questions I got ! Oy vey.

:)

In my 30s, I ran into a woman at a party who had been one of my history teachers in high school. The party was for a rather obscure Scottish musician who combined very old traditional songs and folktales. I was talking to her date about Celtic history, which was one of my passions at the time, when she approached. It took me a minute to recognize her and remark that she had been my teacher (she had no clue who I was). As I continued an in-depth conversation with her date about the Mabinogion (which she was only rudimentarily familiar with), she was beaming with joy at how she had started me on the path of my love of history. I didn't have the heart to tell her she had failed me.

ETA: I just re-read the rules and realized I'm supposed to say how the teacher made a difference in my life. In this case, by failing me it made me determined that I could learn about something I was interested in, even though I had been told it was a waste of time because I was lazy and didn't study hard enough. (I had an undiagnosed learning disability - dyslexia didn't exist in the 1970s)

Back when I was in seventh grade, my teacher finally looked at me and said, "You realize, I can't read a word of what you're writing. You need to find a better way." Later in life it occurred to me that I'd probably been born left handed and trained right handed. I could barely read my own writing and when playing sports, I could never tell if I was right or left handed (they seemed pretty much the same to me).

That night when I got home, I started relearning how to write. My dad always seemed to write in some kind of drafting script so I tried that. All capitals, printed, with larger lettering where the capitals would normally go, stylized enough that I could do it rapidly and most importantly, legibly. My teacher was thrilled with the change and it served me through the rest of my academic life.

Sorry but there may be a change in the contest if it does not make it to 100 by Saturday night.

I have to close little shop of vapors for a bit starting Monday morning.
All orders placed up to midnight this coming Sunday will be sent out Monday and the site closed until further notice - I am hoping just a week.

So where ever this thread is at Saturday at midnight it will be closed, the number generator will run and the grand prize awarded.

I am sorry but this is unavoidable and if I had any other way to do this and keep the shop open I would.

I will make a thread Sunday morning regarding the closing after this one is closed.

Keep posting!!! :)

A very memorable teacher to me was Miss Drysdale. I had never made a grade below a B in my life, but she gave me a D because I was horsing around in class with my friends. It had a profound effect on my widowed MOTHER who would give me "that look" to control me. Well, I saw "that look" for 6 weeks until I brought home a report card with an A from Miss Drysdale.
Six weeks that changed the rest of my high school experience.

You are all very welcome. I love the contests. Of course it helps people know my site but you get to meet different types of members with different attitudes and opinions.
So far my favorite has been the music one. We need to run that again soon.

But for now a bit of news I am posting here, in my other thread and on the front page of the site:

little shop of vapors will be closed for a bit Monday Sept 17th until (hopefully only) the end of the week.

The boss is having her tonsils removed and will be out of commission for a few days.
Send ice cream please!

Check back to the site on Friday Sept 21st for a GET WELL SALE !
Hopefully things will be back and up and running again.

Thank you for your patience and please do not forget the ice cream. :)

~ Boom Boom ~

I will try to keep things updated in the other thread as to when the shop will re open.
ASAP! if I can.

Thanks again to all who played.
