Yep, this is my SO--better the devil you know than the one you don't, I guess. I DO know that I feel 100% better than I did and I'm quite happy with my decision. We'll see if that happens with him but it may never. While it's disappointing, it's still his choice.

I feel better too, and common sense tells me (and her) that it's far safer. Doesn't make it a guilt-free pleasure by any means though.

Me - "Why don't you want to try it?"
Mrs - "They're too new. I don't want to switch and find out next year that there's something in them that's a lot worse."

She's a very intelligent person. She (and I) won't believe the research until something gets published in an independent and peer reviewed medical journal like New England Journal of Medicine, AMA, etc.

I'd show her this article:

BU School of Public Health: Evidence Suggests E-Cigs Safer Than Cigarettes, Researcher Claims

I'm trying to get my wife to switch. The truth is if someone doesn't want to switch (or quit, for that matter), they won't. The harder you push, the harder they'll push back.

Knowing my wife like I do, I haven't pushed. I've offered, and she's politely declined. I've been vaping for about a month now, and I don't kiss smoking one bit. I've told her that. When I was doing my research, I told her the reasons why - cheaper (smokes are $11 a pack here in NYS), I was sick of smelling like smoke, I was sick of constantly washing my hands and face, and I was sick of spraying my clothes with Febreeze. She's sick of all those things too, and doesn't enjoy smoking at all.

Yet she still won't try vaping. She's yet to take a single drag.

She was having a cigarette while I was having a vape a few minutes ago. I brought the subject up again, after not mentioning it for a week...

Please don't point to studies done, how it's safer, etc. That's not the point of this post. The point is a lot of people feel this way, and she won't be convinced until someone like the Surgeon General says it's a safe(er) alternative.

I don't think I'd put that much faith in the government who passes protectionist laws for Monsanto to do whatever they want to our food without fear of being held responsible. They allow Zyban and Chantix in spite of rigged testing and a known suicide risk while at the same time "worrying" about ecigs which haven't had any major problems.
I would put faith in medical studies, although not necessarily what you list, as far as I know the AMA a lot of doctors are quitting or not joining the AMA because it has become a political organization.

The FDA is worthless. They can't even regulate something as simple as "All Natural." It comes as absolutely no surprise that pretty much every country has banned the importation of our meat. But that's neither here nor there. The point wasn't to start up a debate as to the safety of vaping; it was to point out common concerns. Legitimate of not, perception is everything. Until the Surgeon General or someone of similar stature (Dr.Oz? lol!) publicly and noticably gets behind vaping in mass media, people are going to be weary of it. Again, big tobacco's "research" killed the credibility of anyone associated with nicotine research.

I'm going to leave it at that in an effort to not derail this thread further. Maybe it can be discussed somewhere else, but I'm out of answers anyway.

You could do what I did and tell your wife we are no longer buying cigarettes in order to save money. If she wants to keep buying cigarettes we would need to turn her cell phone off to make up the cost difference. I handle the finances and no we are not anywhere near that bad off. :D

As an alternative you could use the old guilt method. Show her THIS video and then tell her that every pack of smokes she buys give BigT more money to advertise to children in Indonesia. So in essence she is helping to kill poor innocent children. While this is actually true, it is also a bit mean to point out, but would probably work.
