So the majority of my family has an issue with my vaping. I want them to understand how much better it is than smoking and how few if any negative effects vaping has. I was wondering if anybody could show me a few links to studies/journals/news stories so I can provide evidence for many of the facts I already know about vaping. My father has always been a very logical person and I feel I could sway his opinion if I had some real evidence besides what I can repeat from what I have learned here. Thank you in advance for your help.

Point out the obvious things, no ashes, no bad odor, no residue on objects, thus unlikely any in your lungs either. As for that anti freeze argument, sure PG is an antifreeze FOR POTABLE WATER (drinking water). Anyone that RVs in winter or has to keep livestock water from freezing has used it for that. It is also a food additive in many things form flavorings to ice cream.

Pretty obvious it's better to vape than inhale tar filled smoke form burning, chemically treated leaves. I mean go smoke the fall leaf pile after spraying it with bug killer if you want but, it really doesn't make much sense when there is a better way to get your nicotine.

Maybe give them a dictionnary

Wikipedia said:
Smoke is a collection of airborne solid and liquid particulates and gases[1] emitted when a material undergoes combustion or pyrolysis, together with the quantity of air that is entrained or otherwise mixed into the mass. It is commonly an unwanted by-product of fire

Vapor (U.S spelling) or vapour (British spelling) is a substance in the gas phase at a temperature lower than its critical point.[1] This means that the vapor can be condensed to a liquid or to a solid by increasing its pressure without reducing the temperature.

They are obviously not the same phenomenon.

Thanks for all the help/ideas guys. It turns out, my fathers girlfriend is interested in vaping (she smokes occasionally) and it looks like I'm going to convert her. Just spent the past couple of hours explaining everything I could think of and letting her try some of my MBV juices. That should help everybody else recognize the truth. Anyway, thanks again guys.

Jean-Francois Etter's book is really cheap on Amazon and is a very balanced argument. While he supports vaping, he believes that we need more studies conducted (if nothing else, but to prove its better!).

You could also throw in that there's the argument happening as to the medicalisation of PVs- *RANT*if they weren't that good, they wouldn't try to medicalise them- ultimately making them a load of rubbish and not work like the current NRTs which are available...*RANT OVER...for now....*

The links on this thread are quite amazing and wonderfully helpful. Thank you for this. Many very excellent quotes. Several caught my eye, this one, I copied:

"E-cigs are much safer than cigarettes. We don’t need clinical trials to know that a large rock falling on a person is much more dangerous than a small rock falling on someone. Compared to cigarettes, reduced risks of e-cigs are obvious. The number and level of toxins are much lower in e-cigs. It is easy to be less dangerous than fire-causing, carcinogenic, smoke-generating cigarettes."

Thank you RoseB, BostonJim, DC2, and rolygate. Greatly appreciated. I found this article, provided by DC2 as my favorite and I am reposting it here:

Reasonable people saying sensible things about low-risk alternatives to smoking (update) « The counterfactual

Thanks again, you guys.

I stopped smoking 10 years ago. When I sat down with my wife a month ago and told her I had bought an e-cig, she was like, oooookkkaayyyy. She didn't know anything about them. The first thing she said, as a non-smoker was, "let met try it". She took a small drag, exhaled, & shrugged her shoulders. I told her the hardest part will be the psychological image of me smoking. So I took a drag, exhaled, and she started to cry. She said it looked just like smoking, which she hates.

She got over it pretty quick though.
