Hello everyone! About a month into vapign and I'm a little confused with the voltage thing...

I have a VV battery - I have it set to P10 and v5.0. I BELIEVE my coils are at 2.0 ohms... I have both a Kangertech Mini Pro 2 and a Kangertech Pro tank 3.

The Protank 3 is "dual coil" but I'm sure it's single coiled as many people tell me if the coil only has 2 wicks this is so.

- How do I know what is a safe voltage for my battery/tank?

- WHEN do I replace the coils? I get SO many different answers - some say 3 days, others say after it stops giving vapor... but I've had the same coil in my mini pro 2 for like 3 WEEKS now and it is the same as when I bought it :( confused!

- how do I know what voltage to se my device to? And what does the P10 mean?

Thanks guys

There are a couple of answers for you.

It appears as if you have a Variable Voltage AND a Variable Wattage (P) device. When using your mod, you either select to operate it in the VV (Variable Voltage) mode OR VW (Variable Wattage mode). So it's an either, or proposition when using your mod.

When you select VW mode it will show up on your screen as (P) i.e. P8.5 and your mod will automatically select the voltage to operate depending on the resistance of your atomizer.

When you select VV mode it will show up on your screen as (V) i.e. 3.9V and your mod will automatically select the wattage to operate depending on the resistance of your atomizer.

Typically for beginners starting off most people will recommend you operate your mod in the VW (P) mode and let the unit automatically select the appropriate voltage for you. I'd recommend the same to you. Select the Wattage that most satisfies you! Vapor, Flavor, etc...

As far as when to change your coils... there is no cut and dry answer. It all depends on how much you vape, if you chain vape, if you operate at high wattages or low wattages. You'll know when to change... the flavor will start tasting a little like wet dog fur! It may happen quickly, or it may happen slowly. If you've been using the same head for 3 weeks, I'd say you're probably ready to replace it or at least clean and dry burn it. There are Youtube videos that will help you with cleaning and dry burning your heads.

As far as safe Wattage or Voltage for a 2.0 ohm head, my personal recommendation would be to operate anywhere between 7 and 10 watts or 3.8 to 4.2 Volts, that should give you good flavor and good vapor production. Just experiment and find what you like. The wattages you like to use may change depending on the ejuice blend and flavor you are using too.

Remember! Let your unit work for you! Select a wattage you like and let the unit adjust the Voltage on its own... Good Luck!

Wickedgt pretty much covered everything, to re-iterate...

There's no "unsafe" voltage realistically as far as regulated VV devices go. If you turn it up too high (which is going to be based off the specific coil you have in there, since manufacturer's coils can vary in quality from coil to coil, as well as the juice you're using) then you'll start getting a nasty burnt taste. I'd say slowly crank it up and just watch out for that.

Also, you can't change the voltage AND the wattage. If you use VW mode (normally depicted by "P") it will automatically set the voltage output to equal the desired watts based on the ohms of the atty (Ohm's Law Calculator).

As far as changing the coils out, again it varies from coil to coil. Some are wrapped horribly and you'll be getting a burnt taste/no vapor within hours. Others can last over a month. Just change it out when you start getting the burnt taste and/or significantly less vapor.

Also, just because there's a single coil head in there now doesn't mean it always has to be that way. You can buy the dual coil replacement heads separately and change them out the same way. Rule of thumb is that PT2 (single coil) heads will work with the PT3, but PT3 heads (dual coil) won't work in the PT2.

You can dry burn your coils. Unscrew the tank and pull the stem off of the coil. Turn the voltage down low and give it short pulses until all the gunk burns off and the coil starts to glow when pulsed. Wash it of and reassemble. It will be like a new coil. The wick should clean up also.

For especially gunked up coils you may need to hold it down longer than a few seconds at a time. Don't let it glow red for a long time. It'll scorch the grommet and you'll have a burnt rubber taste happening.
