I did not know where to post this. Admin, if this is the wrong place, please re-post to appropriate thread. I have been sub ohm vaping with silica (on the igo-w and the igo-l). I decided to try cotton as i would rebuild my attys with cotton. Every time i rebuild with cotton on my rda it tastes very burnt. Its like the cotton can't keep up (its wicking slow). I don't know if that is because of my builds or because I am using %100 vg. It might be the %100 vg and its wicking slow because the liquid is very thick. What are your opinions. and if you can, post some pictures of your guys' builds. I am very curious as to how other people build.

How low of an ohm load? Try straight VG with no flavoring as your flavors may not be able to take such high heat.

Could you post an image of your setup? I am almost certain the issue is too much cotton, you would think more is better but this isn't the case...especially when using %100 VG.

Finally, you can't chain vape a 0.3 ohm coil with %100 VG.

In my experience, cotton wicks more efficiently than silica.

When I'm setting up an atty with cotton, I'm always careful to make sure the wick isn't choked by the coil. When threading the cotton through the coil, there should be very little resistance. Stuffing a wick that's too thick will choke the cotton and not allow it to suck juice to the coil.

Its about a .3, .4, or .5 ohms. I never chain vape on my sub ohms. I'm gonna make one without so much cotton and loosen the coil a bit and see if that helps. I would post a pic of my set up but i currently don't have it put together. I have my silica set up, but not my cotton. It only had one air hole so i drilled another, i actually drilled the stock air hole bigger as well. They are both 17/64 i believe

The reason i listed those ohm loads are because that's the different builds I've made

edit- I am not using organic cotton. I haven't gotten around to buying some. I use normal cotton balls, but i boil them about three times. Boil them, dry them out, boil them, dry them out, boil them, dry them out.

if you boil it, you have to dry it and fluff it again… then make a nice cylinder with it, but not pinched tight. it should be pulled through the coil pretty easily (so you can back it out and pull it through either way without too much friction)… its all about getting the right amount of cotton… even the tails can be a problem if too much.

there's got to be lots of utube vids out there… i know superXdrifter has some nice ones… ( fpr his Reo )

I can chain vape .3 ohms on cotton all day long. Sounds like you're choking the coil. I use rolled sterile cotton from CVS.

I am currently sub-ohming on a .65 Ohm dual coil in my Trident v2 with organic cotton. I can honestly say that it has been going very nicely! I don't boil my cotton so I don't think it has much to do with that. I don't have much experience with this stuff, but if I had to guess I'd say to check the tightness of the cotton as it passes thru the coil(s)....You don't want it too tight, if anything you want it on the loose side as the cotton will swell as it absorbs liquid. Seems to me like if your cotton is too tight, then it might have wicking issues which could lead to burnt hits...

Maybe start there?

If you build up a "shoulder" of cotton on one side of the coil or the other then you are using too much.

The good thing about cotton wicks is the flavour is better and it wicks much faster than silica, but it has to be changed (daily i found) and even one dry hit ruins that wick - but not your coil. So new wick and go again!

My preference is for silica, but that can be difficult if you make nano and micro coils.

Ok guys, I made a new one last night with less cotton and it is beautiful. I was putting too much cotton. It's not a very high resistance, its only about a .7, but it works! I'm gonna start using cotton in my RDA's instead of silica. I can build an atty with cotton no problem, so i thought it was a little weird that i couldn't build on this. But i have it figured out now. I had a couple flaws, not just too much cotton, but you learn from your mistakes. And thanks to your guys' help!
Cheers, and keep vaping!
