the point of boiling cotton... since it is cold outside it gives you a reason to add more heat to the house and add more humidity, gives you something to do for 2 hours. And.... you can watch it dry too.... other than that I see no other reason....

I too can't see how a dry thread of cotton can come lose . I use braided cotton wicking material ( 1mm) and haven't had any issues as far as it coming apart or disintegrating. And since it stays intact even when gummed up, I can remove it from the coil and replace without having to pull the coil out and rebuilding that too.

Whenever I get cotton in the back of my throat I yell at the wife to remove the dang tail from the rabbit before cooking.....
However 1 time I was putting on a cotton pullover sweater and thought I was gonna choke to death, again yelled at wife to buy only synthetic tops.
