The British took cotton to Egypt for cultivation during the American civil war, when the union blockaded the southern ports, stopping the export trade.
New manufacturing methods have made rayons popular because it's a plentiful source, and cheap to produce.
Wicking is a tiny market for rayon.
I had a hard time finding it in small amounts.
For $10 you get enough to fill a pillow.

I do not remove any layers from pads. No bad taste at all and easier to wick. You may want to try again.

I'm confused .... If I removed the outer layers and the yuck taste went away, then this should indicate that it was the outer layers that were the problem..... hmmmm, well maybe not..... Upon further reflection I also wound another new coil. Also, after pondering and thinking back I may have failed to torch the other coil wire before I wound it..... I usually torch the wire so that it is pliable and easy to bend and wrap. However, I may have forgot to do that when I got that yucky flavor..... I wonder if this could have caused the yucky flavor. I am now wondering if when I torch the coil wire if I am burning off any junk that may be present. Someone got any insight on this?

Where does a person purchase rayon?

Yes, dry burning cleans coil. I always dry burn coils before wicking. Dry burning = heating coil to red glow (in relatively short bursts, about 2 sec.) when it is mounted on a mod. Wire could be somewhat dirty, oils from manufacturing process, etc.

On the Japanese cotton sheets there is a skin-like layer on the outsides of the sheet used to hold it together. You should peel those thin layers off before using the cotton.

Is that really necessary? I've just left it on and picked at it to spread it out and it seems to work just fine in my RBA
