I have the same issues with cotton that's why I like genuine imitation silica (I'm old and smoked for 36 years and have accepted the fact I will not live to see 100, or 90, or 80, or 70, lets face I may die again tomorrow - yes, I said again - local hospital managed to kill me last Feb - but at least they didn't amputate anything)

back onto the subject - organic cotton? did you prewet the cotton wick and coil with your juice (or plain vg or pg)? and do not under any circumstance dry burn it.

I made a cotton coil yesterday for the first time and didnt notice the cardboard flavor your talking about. Could it be your voltage level? I used cotton from the end of a q-tip cause I didnt have any cotton balls around and dripped juice directly on the coil before using.
I felt that it was smoother than using the string wicks I had in the past.

Wrapped coils take a bit of time to break in. My cotton and Kanthal builds take 2 - 3 hours of use before the odd flavor I get from them goes away completely.

That said - did you use organic cotton? Did you boil it first? Non-organic cotton is treated with chemicals like peroxide. That may be where your odd taste is coming from.

Did you boil the cotton before you used it in the build? That could be an issue. With Protanks in particular, there are a lot of moving parts. You could be burning some of the rubber inside the PT too? There are a lot of things it could be.

Moving parts in a Protank??? I am still a Newb so I am curious as to which parts are moving? LOL
