I have been using silica wick for all my build as of date. I tend to use 28g twisted kanthal and intent build to .6ish range (give or take.01). I have heard a lot of positive feedback when using cotton. I wanted to know if I wanted to use cotton in one of my builds, lets say today, would I have to buy a bag of sterile or organic cotton and then boil in purified water and then let sit to dry for 24 hours?

I would love to hear what type of cotton you use (yarn, organic, sterile, Q-Tip, etc....) and your process from buying it, where and the process you take it to before you thread it through your latest master build?

All feedback is greatly appreciated:toast:

Organic cotton balls. Pull some cotton from a ball, roll it between my fingers, insert in coil, trim, prime with juice and vape. The biggest trick with cotton is getting the density right. Too dense (too much cotton) and your coil will tend to run on the dry side; too little cotton and it will run wet and gurgly.

I just use sterile cotton balls I got at the local dollar store. I just unroll the cotton ball which leaves me with a flat thin sheet of cotton. I just pull off strips and feed them through the coil. If the strip I pulled off it to thick I just stretch it out very gently. Finding the sweet spot for cotton density is the hardest part. I don't bother to boil cotton balls as I think that having wet cotton sitting out drying is just asking for mold or mildew to start growing. In my experience plain cotton balls have wicked the best for me.

Awesome feedback. Just got my bag of 100% cotton and plan on using it on my patriot clone. I'm thinking 28 g twisted dual coil 9 wraps n shoot for .6 ohms....from my experience I have heard a lot of people saying the twisted takes a while to heat up....but if you torch your twisted coils before you wrap your wick or size of choice. They heat up pretty darn fast....I'll keep u posted.watching UFC n vaping away...Vale Safe Guys!

+1 on cotton wicks. cotton all the way... cheap, effective.

I buy organic cotton balls and with one cotton ball I can 'unroll' it and end up with a fairly large, and dense, strip of cotton. From that piece I can make a ton of wicks. I'll take scissors to it and cut for desired thickness and length.

Only thing that irks me a little is organic cotton and most of the cotton you'll find has been whitened with hydrogen peroxide. But based on my reading, the h2o2 will not remain in the cotton by the time you buy a bag of it.. H2O2 breaks down into H2O and O2 on its own so there is no harmful residue left over. And organic cotton is rigorously cleaned, bleached, cleaned again, then balled. It's pretty damn safe. And I see no value in boiling cotton before using it.
