I was wondering if there was a special type of cotton that needs to be used. I went to 2 stores yesterday and they had pretty much the same product in different packaging. I wanted to get something that said "organic" on the bag, but couldn't find it. I ended up picking up a bag of cotton balls that said "100% cotton" under ingredients. I intend to boil some for 15 minutes and then rinse it off and then boil it for another 15 minutes.

Is that enough to not poison me in case the cotton was treated with chemicals? Or should I really go out and look for a particular kind of cotton?

Don't know what you have in Canada, but I use this from our CVS Pharmacy. Works great. About $5.00 for a lifetime supply.

I use organic cotton balls boiled for 30 minutes, drained, and boiled again for 30 minutes, squeeze out water and dry with a fan. As long as you give your cotton a good boil (twice is even better) the cotton you have should be fine. You can wash enough cotton balls in one boil to last quite a long time so it's not that big of deal to boil it.
I often use butchers twine(boiled) for my EVOD/Vivi Nova/etc builds as I find it lasts longer than the cotton balls before it has to be changed.

Remember that cotton wicks need to be changed 'often' ... how often depends on your liquid (darker liquid needs to be changed much more often) and how much you vape of course but you'll know when it needs to be changed.
An important thing with cotton is more is not better. Using less cotton it is always better as the cotton swells significantly when wet. Too much cotton will definitely cause problems.

Organic Cotton is definitely the way to go. I still boil it!

I found mine here:
Buy Swisspers Organic Triple Size Cotton Balls from Canada at Well.ca - Free Shipping

They have so many items, if you spend $25min shipping is free. Canadian company:) I've asked my local health store to stock up!

Also, I've been using organic hemp string. Again, boil it! It absorbs almost as well as cotton, and is doesn't burn as quick.

Found that at Michael's. Just go to the bracelet section (go figure!)

Walmart sells organic cottonballs, they're still treated with hydrogen peroxide (anywhere you buy it from will be) though, hence why some people boil it

I think it's swisspers and it cost me around $3 for 80 balls or aprox 100 years worth of wicks (I think I've used 1 whole ball in about 2-3 weeks of rewicking almost everyday)

I have a question for those of you experts at re-wicking / re-coiling with cotton.

Over the past couple of days, I've tried a few times to re-wick my Evod coils with cotton.
I've followed this video decks evod - YouTube

I've tried make-up pads as per the video, Q-Tips, boiled, not boiled. It doesn't matter what I do, I always get this nasty cotton taste when vaping. I did pour juice on the wick before vaping. I also tried the lowest voltage on the twist. same result: nasty cotton taste, I mean, it's un-vapeable.

A lot of people seem to be extremely happy with cotton. What am I doing wrong???

my guess is too much/little cotton. its really finicky. i usually use just enough to pass through the coil with without binding. it takes a bit of trial and error.
