When the flavor starts tasting off, remove the cotton, dry burn the coil clean, add new cotton. Replace the coil when it stops firing correctly.

I will be getting in my rebuildable cartomizer tomorrow and will start rebuilding on it. I also have a few other RDA/RBAs that I want to start building on. How long do your coils normally last? Will I have to rebuild new coils on a weekly basis?

edit: it already is tomorrow. It will be here later today.

If your coil is functioning properly - especially if it's a micro and contact coil - you can change cotton whenever you please. Either to taste, or just out of habit.

I personally replace my cotton in my nano, contact coil every few days - and most times, it's not out of taste, it's just to "keep things fresh". With the contact coil set-up, it's just so easy, that it's no bother; it now takes me less than 3 minutes to remove and replace.

I change my cotton every tank...or before if it is getting gunky. I spend too much on my liquid to have burnt liquid infused with it.

I've had the same micro coils going for a little over a month now, 26awg @0.7ohms. The only reason I might change them soon is because an outer coil would have a sight warp that can't be compressed back to where it was. That just happened from not paying attention rewicking, using cotton with a thick bulge in it. I suppose ADD is a real thing...maybe.:)

I've been known to rewick my coils up to half a dozen times a day. I rewick to switch flavors, if my juice is starting to taste a little off, or if gunk starts building up on my coil from my darker e-liquids. You can change it whenever you want. If the taste is off, I'd rewick it. I rebuild coils maybe twice a month. Sometimes more if I'm using 32g kanthal, because the coils get bent out of shape so easily and it's too big of a pain to try to fix them.

Wow thanks for all the input and advice! I still need to get better at wrapping micro's, but I'll probably start to change out the cotton more frequently now! when you dry burn your rebuilt coils, do you wash the coil before and after the burn? or just remove cotton, dry burn, inset new cotton and go?

I remove the cotton, rinse the atty, dry burn and rewick, unless the smell from previous flavors is still very strong. In that case, I'll rinse after and continue dry burning until the smell fades.

thanks! I did that with 2 of my rebuilt heads and put fresh cotton in, Still got a little funky off taste :?: , although I do have one last question. I just noticed on the bag of organic cottenballs I'm using, it says under contents: Organic cotton whitened with hydrogen peroxide. how bad is that to be vaping?

Honestly, I haven't looked into it a lot (just a few searches on here and google). Some other people have, though, and I've read what they had to say about it, and for the most part it seems that the general consensus is that it still can't be as bad as smoking. I don't think it's something to really worry about, but if it concerns you, I would suggest doing some research on all the different things you can use for wicks and decide which one you think would be best.
