cotton wick dipped in chemicals

Hi ECF , new member here from the Philippines. I was thinking of buying cotton candle wicks as my wicking material , the only problem is we only have the ones that is dipped in chemicals , not the raw kind. Would boiling it in water for 30 mins remove the chemicals?

Welcome to the forums! What type of chemicals are we talking about here, exactly?

edited to add: Most I've seen are either waxed or wax free. I've used wax-free without any issues but you may have something in the Philippines that we don't have here, so more info would be helpful.

I don't know that I'd trust "Chemically Dipped" in the atomizer...Just a personal thought but health wise not a good choice to take a gamble on that one. What you are looking for is braided natural wicks, often times they are used for beeswax candles (why, I don't have a clue). Also a good choice is some cotton yarn is a good subsititue...either option still boil them to remove any residue that may have been left over from the factory.

+1 on BlkWolfMidnight. You can find Cotton/Bamboo yarn in knitting shops.

Unspecified chemical treatment would certainly worry me. Not sure if they ship internationally, but this is the wick I use and it works very well: Candle Wick | Medium Non Waxed Wick | GeneralWax.com
