After messing with the external coil wicking (carto style), it was just never tight enough and produced a lot of burnt hits. So I thought if there was a way I could make the cotton tighter around the coil, carto style, then maybe I would get less burnt hits.
I took the cotton ball and pulled off a small section and twisted it up. Just enough to wrap around the coil and tie a simple knot. Did that twice around the coil without letting the ends of the coil get covered. Then I took cotton yarn and wrapped that around the cotton and tied it about as tight as I could. I had a lot of yarn left, so I figured what the heck I will wrap it around the dual wicks I drilled out in my RSST. I used 500 SS mesh and wrapped a little cotton around the top of it. Then took the yard string around both wicks and under the coil.
I originally tried just the cotton yarn, but it never seemed to touch the entire coil. I have also though about getting 100% cotton thread and just wrapping the coil with a few layers of that before installing the coil. The issue with that is that re-wicking would be a major pain and might just have to build a new coil each time. Too much work for me.
So far it is hitting great, with zero burnt hits. Although the cotton is getting pretty dark after only a few hours....ugh.
I got the 100% organic cotton yarn at Michaels.
It is actually wicking a little too much. I wanted to do dual coils on this set up but no matter what I cannot get them to stay put on the RSST (see my other post). Thinking about dumping the SS mesh and just seeing how the yarn (doubled up) wicks from the tank by itself.
I know my description is probably pretty bad, so here are the pics.
