Organic cotton or sterile cotton. You can either pick up a bag of cotton balls (make sure they are organic and not treated with things like bleach, it will say this on the package) or you can pick up sterile cotton which is often sold in rolls and is most often used in medical applications. Make sure whatever you buy is 100% cotton as well. Most often on the cotton bag it will literally say "100% organic cotton" that's what you want.

Once you have your coils wicked take care not to fire your device before you get the wicks nice and wet. Cotton will burn if there's no liquid to absorb the heat. When cotton is dry it is a little resistant to absorbing the liquid, just put some on and wait for it to seep in. When all of the cotton is wet (make sure you get some on the cotton inside your coil), you're ready to go. :)

Oh and some times, you will get a cotton-ish taste, that will go away quickly. Boiling your cotton beforehand usually reduces the chances of this happening. With sterile cotton you will not get the cotton-ish taste at all because it's already clean.

No problem. One thing I forgot to mention though, pay attention to how your vape tastes. When cotton is dry it will let you know by burning and that's just unpleasant. You will notice that just before it is dry enough to burn that the flavor of your vape will change.

Oh and, welcome to cotton :toast:

Once you burn it it's DONE !! It will taste nasty after that. Watch some videos about wicking. There are a LOT of ways to do it......ex. cotton clouds, dragon wicking, leaving the bottom exposed...

I did! It seems pretty simple and straight forward.. Don't burn the cotton and don't smother the coil. Thanks for the heads up!

I see a lot of awesome builds where people don't wrap the coil around a silica wick and just have some sort of cotton stuffed around the coils... My question is what kind of cotton is this? Are they literally just using cotton balls or is it some sort of special silica cotton or something? ... Would appreciate info! Thanks

Yup I use cotton balls from the pharmacy.

dropped a couple in a cup o water months ago and give it a 2 or 3 minute zap in the microwave to give it a boil/rinse
left them in a dry cup to dry out
and been using bits of that since then

Why coil/rinse? I just got organic. Took about 2 hours and 6 stores to find lol

The product can be 100% organic and still be bleached and/or washed. Hulls need to be removed and what not. The organic means that it was GROWN organically (no chemical fertilizers). The actual process for cleaning the cotton and the ridding of the hulls is necessary to remove any pollutants. Remember, cotton looks like this:

. It still needs to be eventually transferred to bags and if you happen to live around or on a farm... you must know that it's not ALL clean and sterile :)
