That’s great! 95 watts is really high imo. I don’t think I’d even be able to inhale the vape at that wattage lol! Glad you found a better spot.

I have used up to 100 watts without issue but then my battery dies too quickly. 70-80 watts is where I usually keep it but on my RDA I use 50 watts and my other RTAs 30 watts works well. I only go higher on my prince tanks.

So who uses that then?

Cloud chasers ! ?

Seriously, I experienced exactly the same problem when I started vaping. I smoked cigarettes for 43 years and knew nothing about vaping. I tried to vape the same way how I was smoking but I did not know that there are two different vaping systems- DTL and MTL. If you want simulate smoking you should use MTL tanks and coils. If you like to inhale hot flavorful vapor and make huge clouds you should use DTL high wattage coils and tanks. I love MTL tanks and coils... I never vape at more than 23 watt and I enjoy cough free flavorful vaping even with 12mg of nicotine... with DTL 0.25ohm coil, even at 40watt and 6mg of nicotine I cough my lungs out ... unless I reduce nicotine to 3 mg and" fast swallow" huge amount of hot air directly to lung.

In my limited experience, i started with a 20w eleaf and a kanger evod toptank. Coils were 1.7ohm and i used 8-10 watts with nic at 18mg per ml. Did this for about a month. MTL. I started noticing that i was trying to DL hit it eventually and getting masssive nicotine effects, dropped to 12mg and when i finally got a larger mod, sub ohm coils and went to 6mg with the nic, i found i could DL with ease, even at 100w and higher. Didnt start out cloud chasing, just a natural progression for me. But to the original question, i coughed my guts out for the first week or two until my body got used to the idea that this isnt smoke. It happens to us all. Even now, if i over do it, i will cough. Sometimes, its the particular juice that causes this. One of my diy mixes is a bit on the harsh side and can send me into fits if im not careful. We are inhaling something totally different than smoke and the only close resemblance is that it still contains nicotine. So, for starting out, use lower wattages, higher resistance and nic levels and gradually work your way up the wattage ladder and down the resistance and nic side. You will still cough but it will become less and less. Happy vaping!!

The term Higher wattage vaping is the wrong way to look at it sometimes. I'm making coils and using gear to maximize my flavor and cloud production, the coils i go for are all about maximum surface area so that more juice is consumed all at once, equalling huge flavor and cloud, all has to be balanced with airflow to get the drag you want with the warmth you want. I hit my vape like taking a full deep breath, just easy and slow but not too long maybe 4 seconds. I like to fill my lungs with vape and watch the clouds roll out. As far as ppl saying they get plenty of flavor from a mtl, i got news for you, the flavor that can come along with those big clouds can definitely blow away low watt low airflow setups. And consider nicotine strength. Ever get sprayed in the mouth with a gob of 24mg or higher juice? Yak. Nicotine tastes pretty nasty. I use 3 mg juice and it tastes awesome, clean pure flavor. I'm sure if someone who uses 0 nic tasted 3mg they could taste the nic in it still lol. Dirty tasting. With more cloud production I get plenty of nicotine, make myself sick some mornings haha. By no means am I saying this should be your goal, but I just wasn't satisfied vaping until I moved up the chain to dtl vaping. Now i seriously can't hit a mtl tank right, it doesn't taste good, and I'm not satisfied... And for the first two years i vaped I said i would never get into rebuilding but then when i started doing it I took off. Factory drop in coils stink for everything except convenience, but with all the problems you have when relying on them to give you your perfect vape experience, that's not convenience to me. Right at the moment I'm using a 24mm troll v2 rda with .15 dual coils, 2 round wires 1 flat wire twisted together, running it at 99 watts and could probly get it much higher if i opened the airflow (half shut still lots of air), at least 120 watts. I'm using the exact same coils in an 24mm rta at 63 watts and that has flavor for days with less slightly less cloud due to the airflow limits on the rta (still a dtl). And when i talk about cloud it's not just about blowing up a whole room with vape it's also about the density of it. Vaping a custard flavor can be like drinking warm custard for me haha! Love it. Dtl vaping is about vaping, not mimicking smoking or weening yourself off, to me anyway.

I don't think nic tastes dirty, and I've vaped unflavored and also 0 nic. Of course, I use nic salts. But nicotine (even freebase) has never tasted "dirty" to me.

With that said, I guess everyone has their own style of vaping, and if it works, it works. Etc. I suppose the good news is that 18 mg/ml I have nowhere to go but down. Not planning on that right this second, but at some point.

I've gotten a little airier than in the beginning but really not that much.... :)

I think mouth to lung with a good amount of nic helps ppl quit smoking more... Makes sense to start small and see where you want to go from there. One thing i know is like you said there are all types of vapers wanting different things from it and as long as you know what you are getting into it's all good.

Absolutely, it’s one thing to have primo gear and learn all the tricks but for me it doesn’t make much of a difference if you need a cigarette :p.

That being said.....new gear is always fun.

Oy. I just spent almost 300 bucks a couple days ago on new toys for me and the wife and around 500 mls of juice for me, just me all mine hahaha! Today we got a smoant cylon and an aspire zelos with nautilus 2. Monday I'll get the most expensive atomizer I've ever had at 60$, an Aromamizer Plus, and then i get to build some coils and test it out. I don't constantly buy gear, last year I only bought one rda, one rta, and one mod (twice because i slammed the first one on concrete and almost a third time because the replacement shorted twice on me for no apparent reason and i won't use it now). I wanted to stop using my Fuchai 213 I kept as backup and one of my wife's istick20's had 510 threads wearing out and needed replaced.
For the record my vape chokes her out too but she's used to nautilus tanks. She still likes to try short puffs on my dripper to taste the flavors I use.

I coughed a lot when I first started vaping. It just wasn't the same as smoking, so it took me several weeks to get the hang of it.

I vape at 10.6 watts. LOL Works for me!

It is one of those things, i was talking about it with a mate the other night that it’s like having a protein shake instead of a meal; stops the hunger pangs but isn’t quite the same. Though in this case I would say that I find it better in a way to cigarettes.

The more you can enjoy a good vape the less you'll want to smoke. You might always want a cigarette, and might go for one or ten, but eventually after the first one you'll be saying to yourself "that was kinda nasty, i want to taste my vape". And that's a win. Even if you still smoke now and then. Just don't give up on the vape!

Well for now I’ve not wanted a smoke, they do have a different smell to them, but I’m partial to proper pipe tobacco. A few guys at work still smoke and I’ve never wanted one.

Here's a funny thing. I never crave a cigarette, don't even think about them. But a couple of weeks ago, we were helping our granddaughter load up her two kids as it was trying to sprinkle outside, and the two-year old was getting fussy. I mentioned to them that, "Y'know, all of a sudden I'm thinking a cigarette sounds good right now." We all got a laugh out of that. I'll be smoke-free 5 years in July. I didn't really WANT a cigarette at all, but sometimes situations just trigger the thoughts. It's all good, just keep on truckin'.

I also experienced coughing during the transition from combustion to vaping for several months. Some constructive, other coughing not so much. As others have mentioned, there are many key factors that can impact your vaping experience but I believe nic level and hardware configuration (especially wattage, resistance and airflow) will also impact coughing. I've also noticed that after a string of strong DTL pulls I get little tickle in the throat that prompts coughing with about 2mg nic...but then again, my lungs are old. I can't imagine how much more I would be coughing if still lighting up death sticks :smokie: Glad to hear the drop in wattage helped - welcome to ECF escapetovape!

I'm gonna jump in here ...

No, it's not the same, it's better for your lungs and health all the way around as well as tastes and smells better.

I have been vaping 4 years this June. (I looked up old receipts recently as I couldn't remember exactly when I quit) prior to that I was smoking two packs a day of full flavor cigarettes.

I was so addicted even when my health demanded that I quit I couldn't manage quitting. I tried everything both prescribed and over the counter and still couldn't quit. My doctor looked me in the face and said I would die if I didn't quit (my throat is full of pre-cancer cells) and I still couldn't manage it..

When I found vaping I was so dishearted I thought vaping was probably just another quit smoking money pit. I had no real hope it would work to get me off cigarettes.

Funny thing though, once I got through the Initial withdrawals I was good... I haven't so much as wanted a cigarette in years, and a year ago I went 5 months without vaping (or smoking)

And this week I've quit vaping again (possibly for good, don't know...) but it's been almost 5, 24 hour periods without a vape..

Never ever thought it would have been possible .

All this to say give it time.. in time you won't want that cigarette anymore... I live with a smoker these last four years, (hes only recently switched to vaping) and it's no problem at all... haven't wanted a cigarette since I got through the Initial quit but one time..
