Coughing?

Hi,

I've been vaping for 2 days now and I'm wondering if it's normal to cough, especially after each first draw? I never cough when I smoke my regular cigarettes. Is this something I will eventually stop doing? or am I doing something wrong?

It would help to know what your vaping. What strength liquid. It maybe the primer in the atty that makes you cough. Blow it out, not to hard from the battery connector side and then put 2 drops of your liquid on the bridge of the atty. Reduce the size of your initial(s) draw until your throat gets accustomed to the vaper. Drink plenty of liquids when vaping.

I cough sometimes if I drag too hard on my first hit... not sure what it is but doesn't happen often.

My guess is that your lungs might be a little sensitive, if you've been smoking regular cigs for a while.

When I was still smoking, I couldn't breathe in all the way without coughing. When you inhale vapor, it might make your lungs tingle a little, then you're thrown into a coughing fit.. been there.. Staying off the cigs solved it.

But a high-strength liquid & a strong e-cig might contribute to that as well.

I coughed a lot my first few days off analog and on ecigs. It's wearing away and I think it will be gone completely once I stop smoking analogs all together.l

Welcome to the forum, Vaper -

It is common to cough quite a bit while you're getting used to the vape - PG (the primary component) is a humectant - which means it draws moisture out of its surroundings (the tissues in your mouth and throat) and into itself. Vape is drier and a bit harsher than analog smoke, which has additives to combat throat irritation added to it.

Keep hydrated, and take little 'baby puffs' first thing in a vaping session to acclimate yourself to the vape - don't worry, you'll adapt.

Also - if you're totally off the analogs, your lungs are going to start moving all the tar and crap built up in them soon - that's more coughing and hacking up junk. Again - temporary and a good sign.

And thats one of the major reasons I only smoked American Spirit Organics when I was still smoking! Though they were REALLY harsh. But I was still getting all kinds of chemicals from the filter so I gave em up completely once I found vaping!

Yes sarcasm really does lose something in text...

Alot of people do not realize just how nefarious these tobacco companies are. They add 9 different chemicals the sole purpose of which is to make cigs more addictive. And then you have the cough suppressant. you won't really cough much until you have developed a serious illness. Except in the morning. 8 hours with no cough suppressant = smokers morning cough.
