Ok, so kind of nube, kind of not?? Used cigalikes off and on as analog fill-in for about a year. Finally decided to put a serious effort to giving them up completely (down to 1-3 per day from 25-30) and upgraded hardware recently to get longer batt life and slightly more vapor. Now my throat and chest are sore the way they were when I was smoking way too much. Thought could be too high nic w/ upgraded hardware and lowered to 18 from 24 but still having probs, lower and I feel like not getting enough nic and want a smoke :(
Even tried changing to dif tank from ego one .5-1.0ohm to eleaf w/ 1.8 ohm thinking was just too low ohm/too much vapor for my preferred long draws. Could clearo vs atto make diff? Im at a loss here. Really missing the feeling of chest/throat feeling better from vaping vs smoking, any ideas??

So volts contributes to nic level needed too then? Was using 180mah/3.7v (3.3-4.2)/2.2ohm clearo mini tank,24mg, then same but w/ 400mah. Now Im at 850mah, 3.3-4.2v, 1.8ohm,16-18mg liquid. Just cant figure out the dillema. Throat/chest started feeling better when dropped to under 5cigs per day using old set up but now feels rough like I was chain smoking the night before :(

I'd agree with most everyone in this thread. Try dropping the nic level to 6 or lower and see if that helps.

That said, I dunno if it's necessarily quantifiable (ie: "half the nicotine if double the wattage") but rather something you need to "feel out" and see for yourself what's most comfortable for you. I do know people who drip 12mg nicotine on crazy sub-ohm coils (.2 ohms!!) with mech mods. I don't know how the hell they do it, but they don't seem to be fazed even slightly, so I know it's possible, although for most it's not preferable.

The only variables Im seeing are stronger battery and more vapor produced. Could top clearo vs BDC make much diff? Just not sure if Theres something Im missing since I have little exp w/ diff options or if I need to modify some part of the equation....... Do have some lower (12) mg coming today, even 15 though makes me try to inhale entire tank at once

If, by top clearo, you mean one of these type tanks:

Compared to one of these type tanks:

Yes, there is a pretty massive difference in terms of perceivable throat hit/flavor/overall nic strength.

1.8 ohms -> .5/1 ohm is a very large difference, and would (unless you're hardcore heavy metal) result in some discomfort/harshness unless you dropped the nic level.

Ok, lol, fair enough. BUT, for fair point I noted above that the .5 - 1.0 atty was way too much for my taste (muted flavor too much & too harsh) so I did start using a GS Eleaf BDC at 1.8.....

For many people switching from smoking to vaping, there is a transition period with some coughing or sore throat. Relax, it will pass. When you first began smoking, you most likely coughed a lot until your body adjusted to your smoking. The same is true with vaping. Vapor is just different than smoke, and will take some transition time to adjust.

Some people prefer a warmer vape, others prefer a cooler vape. Generally speaking, lower ohm (resistance) coils produce a warmer vape, while higher ohm coils produce a cooler vape.

Lower Ohm Coils Will:
  • Heat The Coil Faster
  • Produce More Vapor
  • Drain The Battery Faster
  • Use E-Juice Faster
  • Produce A Warmer Tasting Vape
Higher Ohm Coils Will:

  • Heat The Coil Slower, Which Will Produce “Less” Vapor
  • Provide A “Cooler” Tasting Vape
  • Use Less E-Juice
  • Prolong Battery Life
Higher power settings also increases the heat of the vapor. Use a lower voltage/wattage setting for a cooler vape.

Nicotine is what produces the "throat hit" of vapor. If too harsh, drop the nic level of the juice.

So for the most part its prob too high nic for the hardware but if I lower the nic I should be ok w/ the set up? (I really do like my new set up and after a bit of adjusting w/ dif tank Im growing rather attached to it :) )

Yessir, lowering the nic should sort out your difficulties.
