Suggestions for improving my RDA experience...

I'm currently vaping on a Kanger Aerotank with a 1 ohm coil; juice is at 12 mg of nic, and I have a TOBH I'm learning to wrap with.

Ive got a dual micro coil wrapped at .5 ohms on it with cotton for the wick and the vapor is way too airy as well as it being super harsh using 6 mg nic juice.

Any suggestions on how to get thick vapor, intense flavor and a good throat hit with this setup? I get good throat hit and decent vapor from my Kanger setup but I'd like to build too...

Yeah, there's a little learning curve with drippers. make sure your cotton isn't too tight in your coils, but it still makes contact all the way through. you can push the coils down a little bit to touch the cotton bed to help with calming the vapor.

I have personaly noticed that higher PG juices that worked well in my pro-tank were WAY too harsh and airy in my RDA... to the point of waking up with a sore throat. Not sure if this is whats happening to you though. Good call on cutting your Nic. in half for dripping.

Also, make sure that the post screws are tight after the first time your atty warms up. the positive screw on a friends had back out a touch and only one coil was firing lol! Hope this helps!

You didn't mention what type of mod you are putting your TOBH on. That can make a real different. If mech then your amps are going to be limited by the resistance of the coil so you'll need to adjust your Ohms to match what you are looking to accomplish. If you are on a regulated mod (something that pushes above 15 watts and will take the low Ohm coil you stated you built) then you can push/pull your watts to get the vape you want.

I used to vape higher PG when I first started with vaping on standard stick batteries. However, when I moved to building and dripping I went with a much high VG ratio (50 or higher) to get the vape I wanted. I also dropped from 6/8mg nic to 3 or 0 b/c the throat hit and nic rush was too much for me.

I also have a TOBH, although I mainly use my Stillare or Plume Veil. I drilled out the center hole slightly b/c I wanted better airflow. If you want thicker less airy clouds you should be able to spin the top to close off some of the air holes. Although at .5 ohms you are running decent heat to the wick and you want the air flow to hit those coils to keep them cool so you don't burn your wick.

Also, like WoWwYnAtoR said check your wicking. With my TOBH I usually run dual micro coils at 2.0mm diameter at between 9 - 11 wraps. Position them to be parallel with your air holes then wick. When you wick make sure that your wick isn't loose but isn't so snug that you are pulling the coil. Then I make my tails so that when I wrap them under the coil they meet with just a slight overlap.

One tip I can give you that really helps with micro coils (beside checking your ohms which it looks like you are doing) is to pulse fire them (with no wick if using cotton) are few times to warm them up. Then use whatever you used to wrap them to tidy up the coils and then use a pair of needle nose pliers to get them nice and tight (fire squeeze, fire squeeze) till they are tight but not overlapping. Then fire them again and make sure they hear from the inside out and uniformly. If not you are going to get a bad vape. Once you get them nice and tight and pretty then wick them. Wet that bad boy up and vape away.

More surface area of the coil makes,
1. More flavor
2. More vapor
Lower sub ohm in the tohb makes,
1. More flavor more vapor

If your sub ohming you have to use more air to not burn cotton or more cotton to hold more juice to be able to reduce airflow by closing the air ports and not burn your cotton. Stock with 24 gauge wrapped 6-8 times on a 3/32 drill and you will make more flavor and vapor.
And use 3mg nic with a higher VG content in dropper just works better all around!

Thanks so much, everyone! Awesome advice. I've re-wicked my coil using MUCH less cotton and the difference is night & day. I'm only running on one of the three air holes as well.

My mod is a King using an 18650 battery. One thing that is concerning, though, is that my mod gets hot after a few puffs. Not blazing but the button first and then the whole mod...

This happens with all my batteries. I've cleaned the mod and TOBH with alcohol (threads, inside & out) and let is sit; cleaned the connections on the batteries...still not sure why it's heating up.

Sorry for the subject change!

Your mod getting hot is possibly a sign that too much stress is being put on your batteries, which can be a dangerous thing. What type of batteries are you using? If you are running sub-ohm coils, I would highly recommend using a higher amp battery such as a Sony VTC 4/5 which are rated at 30 AMPS. Just do your research, and make sure you are getting authentic cells. I would strongly suggest NOT continuing to vape if your mech is getting hot. I would also recommend reading this thread as well.

On the subject of batteries,It's important to know the limitations of your battery (how many amps they can handle) and use ohms law formula to figure out if your build is pushing your battery past those limits. If you don't like math, there is a wonderful app for smartphones called simply, ohms law. All you do is plug in your numbers (your ohm laod, your wattage) it then figures out for you your amp draw and voltage draw. It's perfect for people who don't like doing math themselves. This way you will be able to compare the amps to your batteries limitations and know if you are vaping safely..if you push a battery past it's limits a chemical reaction within the battery can happen and the battery begins to vent and if continued can boil over or even explode.so it's very important not to go past those limits. Also it's good to have a multimeter because some batteries are rated higher than they actually are in reality. So it's good to check for yourself if possible . It's best to be safe. This especially is important with sub ohm builds. I hope this is helpful. I wish you the best.
