I used my portable carrying charger today but when I screwed the manual battery in I didn't realize the button was pressing on the side of the case. A few hours later I took it out and put my other one in (again not realizing the button was pushed in. An hour or so later I realized my stupidity. Both batteries are shot. They won't recharge at all.

After thinking about it and realizing that they have an automatic cutoff of so many seconds then they should still have been okay.

My question is could this have done it or could the charger itself have screwed them up?

Help:(

I'm not sure which model you use and I'm also guessing you are referring to a PCC and accidentally put the battery inside wrong which meant the battery button was pushed in the whole time.

I really don't know what to tell you, but if you plug your empty PCC into your computer USB and the red light comes on saying that it is in fact charging, then your PCC may be OK. Just make sure the green light turns on to show it's fully charged.

I would try and charge the batteries themselves in your AC charger first to see if they will take a charge at all. It could be that the buttons may be stuck in the "on" position too. All you can do is try and hope things work out for you. If not, you may have damaged them beyond repair.

Just trying to help.

Agree with ShortStuff.

By button, I take it that you have manual batteries and I believe they do not have an automatic cutoff. The batteries themselves have a chip that shuts off current draw to protect against deep discharge that would kill Li-ion batteries, but combined with the charging circuit on at the same time.......??

If your ac charger doesn't charge them, they're probably gone.

Good luck!
