A little help here, please ? Using 510 attys on eGo and REO mini. I've read where some use Vodka for atty cleaning. For me, that is NOT an option. In recovery, clean and sober for over 19 years now. No offense intended to anyone else, but alcoholic beverages are not allowed on my property. Ever. I've been using Isopropyl Alcohol to clean my attys. Soak over night, blow them out and alllow to dry for at least a day. Today I read a thread where we should NEVER use Iso to clean attys. Any good advise would truly be appreciated, thanks:unsure:

You can use the alcohol but ALWAYS rinse really well with hot water. Alcohol will leave a residue that is dangerous to our liver if they are left to dry and not rinsed first.

Another way is to lightly pack the atty with baking soda. Sit atty in a tiny container. Drip white vinegar in and let it bubble away. When the bubbling stops, lay it over and put enough vinegar to cover it. Let sit for about an hour. Rinse well with hot water. Now add a few drops of lemon juice....let sit for about 10 minutes. The acid will help clean the coils and remove the vinegar taste. Rinse well in hot water and then sit it threaded end up to let dry.

Only other option since you don't want to use drinking alcohol, is to get yourself an ultrasonic jewelry cleaner. www.harborfreight.com has a nice one for around $20-25.

Hello PapawBrett,

I am also a recovering drunk.

You don't actually say why attys should never be cleaned using Isopropyl alcohol.

I have it around my home and have used it for cleaning Stardusts because it dry's quickly with zero negative results. If you are worried about it because of health reasons keep in mind, it works well cuz it evaporates quickly. Evaporates = gone.

Something that has evaporated into the air certainly can't make you sick because it's no longer on the atty.

Plus if all that booze we put into our bodies didn't kill us a ultra tiny amount of Isopropyl certainly isn't something we outta be worried about.

Keep on vaping, one day at a time!

I clean mine out with the cans of air you get for blowing out dust from computers. Just be careful not to get it in your eyes. I wrap them in a paper towel and blow them into it. It works better than anything else I've tried.
I've never in 2+ yrs fried a 510 atty either.

And THAT is why I enjoy reading this forum!

What a GREAT idea! :thumb:

Hello Hairball!

I am NOT here to argue with ANYONE.

Do you have a link to something that explains about this residue that is left behind that could be dangerous to our livers?

While I have used Isopropyl many times in the past I am opened minded and WILL stop using it IF I feel it is not safe for my health.

I am also a friend of Bills, but I'm not inclined to drink the rubbing alcohol that I use to clean my atties, and it evaporates, so I don't worry about ingesting it when I vape.
For daily maintenance all I do is flood the atty with whatever flavor I happen to be using, and then blow it out into a tissue.

Smith & Wilson is the best life insurance I've ever found.

I've used the baking soda and vinegar method with good results. I'm usually pretty forgetful with maintenance, and the best way to keep attys from gunking up is to blow them out overnight or when switching out/not using for a while. Rebuildable atty's may also be a good option for you, I've never used them, but being able to change out a burnt coil could end up saving you money.
