Counterfeit AW IMR 18500 ?

Hi all!

So I recently got 2 AW IMR 18500s (at separate times.)

I noticed tonight that one is a flat top, and one is a button top.

I've read that they don't make flat top batteries. But I sure see a metric ton of sites selling flat top AWs and they aren't all vape shops, so I want to be sure before I go sending an accusatory email...

Does anyone know with absolute certainty if this is true?

If you do know (either way...) are there other things to look out for if it is a knock off?

I can post pics if necessary...

i dont think aw makes flat tops!! he( A.W.) gets batts, tests, and wraps them ect.. as far as i know, no flat top!!! also beware of the fake aw's the wrap isnt as good as origonal and have shiny black top, the wrap dosnt cover very much of the top!! and there is a mm or so size diff in length !! fairygifts.com got fakes if you wanna have a look, and vapor beast had the fakes (wonder if he knew) a while back as well!!!

Dratts... Well the length is the same, but everything else you described is right on... It's weird, it's wrapped really well and if you cover the top you wouldn't be able to tell the two apart. but, the other really weird thing is that the label is ever so slightly transparent on the back and I can see there's a number underneath the wrap so I'm guessing I got hosed...

Man, I didn't even think someone would go to the trouble to fake a feakin' battery, but when I pulled it out I was like hmmm, these 2 have different tops. Whats up with that.

I bought it on ebay so that's my own stupiditiy for not stopping to think that it might not be genuine... and not sticking with a vendor who has a good reputation...

Thanks for the heads up! I'll do a little more searching, but it looks like I'll have to open a claim on this guy and get him to stop selling these.

Lesson learned, don't buy any "high end" vape gear on ebay!! ;(

I've opened a claim and in the process of aggressively trying to get this seller shut down. We'll see what happens!

It looks like there's a very good chance this seller is going to be shut down, but more importantly ebay will take a more active role in investigating Lithium Ion and IMR battery listings in general... we shall see. I'll post an update!
