You guys that cannot tell the insulator apart from the others, Put your volt-ohm meters on them @Mooch,
His testing showed a huge difference in the resistance values between the authentic and fake.

From the text of the test above.

"The internal resistance of the good batteries ranged from 22mOhm-24mOhm (0.022-0.024 ohms). The bad batteries had internal resistances of 39mOhm-41mOhm, a significant increase. This high internal resistance causes huge voltage sag which leads to very early weak/low battery messages from the mod. This is one of the best ways to determine if you have one of these bad batteries."

Ok.......question........I'm like Kay P can't really tell if the white ring is glossy or matte, but.... If I run my fingernail over it in the direction from the outside of the cell to the contact, I can feel some slight texturing. There are no stickers on them, just got 6 of them from Orbtronic. RTD was out and illumn was 1.50ish more do ya reckin I'm ok, or not?

So far, not shiny = good
Vaping at over 50W per battery is a good way to tell too.

Unfortunately, you won't be able to use a multimeter to measure the internal resistance of a battery. You need to pulse the battery and measure the change in voltage that results. Using a meter will just show a very high resistance, perhaps megohms.

I can tell the difference between my 2 month old good HG2s' insulator and these fakes'.
The newer ones' insulator ring is shiny and white as white gets.
The older ones don't reflect as shiny.

I rewrap sets as different colors so I can tell married sets apart.
The new batteries' insulators are stuck in place.
The older (good) batteries' insulators are loose and need to be held in place while shrinking the wrap.
The ones I received from 101 Vape are authentic as far as I can tell. The insulators are identical, they are not shiny smooth but almost have a grainy look to them. I have not taken a wrap off but I do not think I need too.

I contacted 101 vape and have already received an answer. Basically, they said they only sell authentic cells and that these were no exception. So, in other words, they aren't concerned with the rumors and/or results of these tests. Guess if mine turn out bad, they don't care. They just lost a customer whether or not the ones I receive are bad or not. Their answer seemed very short and quip, like they were offended when asked about a product. That's why I won't buy from them again.
I just got some from 101 today and checked them against a older batch and they are identical down to the same insulator. 101 has never sold fake cells that I know of. Im not sure why you took offense to a honest answer from them?

I can't even tell the ones I currently have are fake or genuine.. I keep looking at the top insulator over and over again. It appears to be matte, but it also shines a little. Maybe my eyes are going bad; too bad I can't claim warranty on these.
Yes the real ones are kinda grainy looking of two different materials mixed.

Another word of advise SS, I always like to converse with vendors in written, as in emails. It's much harder for them to convey their irritation/rudeness on paper.

He's a great person to deal with, He accidentally sent me an older version of a Xtar MC1 charger, and I didn't realize it till a month later when I went to use it lol. So I just E-mailed him to let it know it happened just in case he has someone boxing stuff up without knowing the difference or something. I said flat out that im fine with the older model, it was like $2 price difference but he told me to take a picture of the box and charger and insisted on sending me the right one for free and still keeping the old one! I could have downloaded a picture off the internet for all he knew, but I put the packing slip in the picture just to show I'm not a person that would do that. Couple days later it showed up! Like I said, once you have talked to him a few times, you will realize how great of a person he is to do business with!

I just e-mailed him about this.. Did not say anything about "Wondering if his LG HG2's were Real or Fake" more of a, do you have any other info on this subject.

I'll try the pencil trick mentioned earlier; however, even though mine appear to have a grainish appearence, the sheen I see at the same time confuses the heck out of me.

Ahh good tip with your last paragraph. I was going head on in my email to slowtech. Maybe I should back off and use your approach. Thanks.

Keep in mind I don't think I have the counterfeits for comparison.
IMR stated the ones in question were from a batch sent March this year.
Mine came from Nov last year.
The insulator is easily lifted, with no adhesive.

Well crap. I just order some of these a couple of hours ago from 101 Vape. Just now looked again at the pic they have on their website and it does show a white ring on them, but cannot tell if its shiny or not.
Please post when you have your results as I would greatly appreciate it.

    :)
Mine I got today are good they have the insulator on the right here pic 5

@Mooch is there any other test we can do at home, with a multimeter or other, to confirm if ours are good or bad? So far we just have the textured white insulator to go by?

I snapped pics of mine I got about 3 weeks ago from Liion. Stickers seem different a tad, but white textured insulator is there

and thank you for all this knowledge you supply us with. You really do bust your ... for the community to help insure we dont blow ourselves up

Unfortunately, there aren't any tests you can do with a meter. One of the best ways to test is to run one at over 50W. If you get a weak/low battery message much sooner than you should you probably have bad HG2's.

Because it's possible they were sold fakes, just like other vendors were.

What is strange about 101Vape is that Kanger lists them as selling fake Kanger products. Kanger had them on the list for over a year now. Oh I see Fasttech has now made it on the list.

All mine from 101 have the insulator that mooch said is authentic, pic 5 of his slide show. I have 12 of them in all, 6 purchased a month ago and 6 received today.

Not sure Bill, but never have I seen a post about 101 selling fake battery's and they have been around for a few years. Mine all check out and are authentic I am more than satisfied.
