I just bought my first mod, a mini Reos. Yay! But I can't find any of the batteries in stock on any of the websites mentioned in the forum. Boo! What's so special about these batteries that a world search can't turn up any? It's got me worried that if I'm traveling and a bat craps out, I'm SOL. Radio Shack or some other chain does not carry the 14500's?

Sorry if this is covered somewhere.......I'm new:blink:

Damn bro, just did ~15 minutes of searching and couldnt find anything. I get all of my AW batteries from the ECF supplier "wonderlite"... search his name, you'll find his thread. He imports them himself, he tells me he's expecting an order next week. Shoot him a PM....

or, just keep an eye on the classifieds...

Go to supertmanufacturing.com David (the owner) has your back.

Edit: Also if you buy your bats from superT make sure to copy your order # go to the superT sub forum click on the "customer reward" thread click on the link that is located on the first post in that thread and then paste your order #. David makes a weekly drawing and this week you can win a Preceise 10440. Great unit short bat life but hey for FREE!! :)

also if you live near a Frys electronics they have 14500 18650 and 26650 lifepo batteries in store...better get a lifepo charger though ...WF 188 or a good Hobby charger have settings to charge Lifepo batteries...I am looking into alternative sources for a good lifepo charging setup...maybe one I will post as a walkthru for a Simple USB lifepo charger soon...

As a side note I expected the PV market to reach the supplies limit for mods materials...guess it was a little sooner than I thought...there are a lot more people buying mods now...

Frys has the Turnigy Hobby charger but no drop in type charger so if you go that route you had better go to Budget light forums or CPF(candle power forum) to see how to use the charger and make batt holders to charge them...

If you can't find any, PM me your postal address and I'll send you one. Do you have a charger?

Yeah, I can't find them. Bummed. Maybe the black label's tierrataz mentioned? Robert, if you read this thread, you really need to start offering them with the batts man. We'll pay. I swear.

Jackson5 your the man! Or I hope a male .... whatever the case may be. I ordered three bats and a charger. After the mod and this stuff plus some boge carto's from another site, I'm $200+ poorer. Thanks everyone for your help.

Probably should post this elsewhere........can we use the Trustfire 14500 Li-ion batteries I see on IVape? I think they are protected batteries and they are rated at 900mAh.

I use the 900mah batteries as backups and they work just fine. The only thing about them is as the battery nears the end of it's charge, you can expect your vape to drop off as well. The high drain batteries are designed to deliver the same amount of oomph all the way until the battery is completely discharged which is why they are so highly sought after.

Jamminloud,

You had it right, I'm male. I know that $200.00 can seem like a lot, especially if your coming from an Ego, or pen style type device. But, I can tell you from experience that this line of Mod's is something you'll not regret getting into. The following and support from those who came before us is immense, not to mention an improved vaping experience. You'll save money over the long haul too. Mod batteries (encased in Robert's indestructible bodies) will be less prone to failing, and cost 1/2 of a typical replacement for the above mentioned. Add to it the convenience of the "no mess" juice feeding and the potential to HV vape...awesome!
Worst case scenario is; If you aren't satisfied with it, it will be gone in a day if listed in the classifieds. Congrats on your purchase!

Just being courious I checked and he is out too. Noticed he lowered the price by .60 cents. They used to be 7.49.

I guess AW is having a hard time keeping up with the demand because of the Reos

The AW IMR 14500's really do work best on the Mini and make a real difference when using LR atomizers because of their high "C" rating. All protected li-ion batteries are marginal in the small size. If anyone is going to use protected batteries instead of the high drain batteries due to lack of availability, the best alternate is the protected AW 14500 (black), which has a 2C rating, as opposed to the ****Fire which is 1.5C. Also AW produces a better quality product.

From the ECF thread http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/ecf-library/129569-rechargeable-batteries.html:

Power rating for rechargeables

The critical factor for ecig mod use is the C rating (discharge current) in amps. The minimum possible value for safe and effective ecig use is 1 amp (= 1000mA) although ideally it needs to be higher. The ideal rating is 2 amps (2000mA) or better as an atomizer usually draws 1A to 2A.

Chart of C ratings vs size
1C or less for low-quality Li-FePo4
Assume 1C for generic Li-ion unless otherwise noted
1.5C for ultra/sure/trust/-fire Li-ion
2C for AW ICR (Li-ion)
3C for BDL 10440 IMR (Li-Mn)
5C for BDL 14500 IMR (Li-Mn)
8C for AW 14500 and 16340 IMR (Li-Mn)
10C for AW 18650 IMR (Li-Mn)
10C for AW Li-FePo4

Note:
Tenergy etc Li-FePo4 (small cells) - <0.55A (~1C - half an amp or less - not suitable for ecig use)

Max drain rate in amps is C in mAh / 1000 x C rating
Example: an AW IMR Li-Mn 14500 battery has a capacity of 600mAh. The C rating is 8C (it can supply 8 times the capacity). Therefore the max discharge current in amps is:
600 x 8 over 1000 (600 multiplied by 8 divided by 1000)
= 4200 / 1000
= 4.2 amps
This shows it has enough beef to safely and effectively run an atomizer - which some 14500's don't. In other words it is less likely to go into thermal runaway if there is an internal fault in the battery and is then used to power a device that draws a relatively high current such as an atomizer; and it will not suffer from excessive voltage drop when powering the atty.

Useful formulas
Amp draw = voltage / resistance
Example: a 5 volt mod is used with a 2.5 ohm atomizer - what current is drawn?
5 / 2.5 = 2
The battery must supply 2 amps.

Power used by atomizer in Watts = volts x amps, or volts x volts / resistance
Example: a 5 volt mod delivers 2 amps to the 2.5 ohm atty - what power is used?
5 x 2 = 10
The atty uses 10 watts
or
5 x 5 / 2.5 = 10 watts
