With normal cigarettes, the cigarette is burnt up. This is your cue to stop smoking, go back inside, etc.

With my new 901b, I've been puffing away on it nearly continuously for a few hours. I'm like the lab rat that keeps pushing on the bar to always get food, even when he isn't hungry.

What techniques do you guys use to lay off for a little? Do you just have the self-control to say I'm done? Or do you set a timer? Share, so that I may not die of nicotine poisoning.

I'm thinking the "no nic" carts I got as a part of my sample pack will be my way of satisfying my desire to use this thing, and not overwhelming myself.

I remember reading about this before I made my first purchase. I'm like you. I vape away when I'm not thinking about it.
On breaks at work, it's clear when you should stop (when the break is over).
At home I still keep the e-cig by the door because that's where the reg cigs always were. I keep reminding myself, I don't have to go outside to puff.
So, I just keep it handy at the house and vape whenever I feel like it. I know this can't be the equivelant to going outside and smoking two or three and gettng all that nic at once.
At the computer, it's the hardest. I'm in the garage. I still come out here to work and switch between the real and the vaping. And I have no clue when to stop vaping. I guess my only answer is that I feel comforted in knowing that I'm STILL not vaping as much as I used to smoke.

Sometimes, I vape for 5-7 minutes, since I know that's how long it takes for me to smoke a real cig. But reality is, we can't live life watching a clock.

Drip smoking helps a bit. Just drop 1-2 drops of liquid into your atomizer and it'll last you about 20 puffs or so before it starts tasting burnt. I generally add 2 drops and stop when it doesn't taste right anymore. Then I wait an hour or so, and have another 2 drops. That hour is purely subjective though, sometimes it lasts for an hour... sometimes 3 or 4... depends on what I'm doing. I've definitely had a better result with the 24mg liq over the 36mg liq in "needing a hit". So far it's pretty much been just when I feel like it and I like that. I generally don't like cravings telling me what to do.

When I started esmoking I was vaping constantly and enjoying it so I used my own diy mix of very low nicotine juice. I was getting a constant low dose. More recently I've been using higher nic juices and find that I vape for a while and put it down for a while so I'm getting shorter exposures to higher nic levels. For some reason with me I seem to compensate for the nic level by changing habits. It could be that I'm actually getting too much nic without knowing and building up a tolerance, I don't know. One day I'll start keeping track of how much I'm getting.

I do the same as edisme when dripping, or, if vaping with a cart, I stop when the atomizer gets hot or there's no more vapour being drawn. I use a 901...

I'll then take a break from vaping for 15 or 30 minutes or so...

A cart on a 901 is going to be significantly more than 1 cig worth...

I find a filled 901 cart lasts about the equivalent of maybe 3 cigarettes...

That's about right if you take into effect the amount of liquid that's not usable when using cartridges... which is about half the capacity of the mini cartridge.
Just another reason why I only drip now...

I think having a place to store your e-cig helps or a certain room in the house where you vape so that it becomes more of a ritual. So for instance when you feel like you've had your fill (like another poster dripping helps me with this), you just pop it back in it's case, drawer or whatever and forget about it until the next urge-out of sight out of mind.... I find when I just have my e-cig sat around by me all the time, I tend to overdo it!

This is not really a GOOD way to do this, but one day I brought to work one e-cig and forgot to bring the yummy-tasting liquid I was vaping. After a while, the cart was dry, and I used the spare cart that I had stored in my backpack for just such a circumstance. This was a classic medium (the flavor that comes standard), which I really don't like. On that day, I did vape a lot less, only to satisfy the craving. In general, if I want to be moderate, I pick one of my least favorite flavors, and that limits my use by quite a bit.

Even though I vape for longer times than I used to smoke, I am not too worried. I only use medium and low, and I actually had a few symptoms of nicotine withdrawal (I still allow myself 3-4 real cigs a day, down from 22). After about 7 weeks of e-smoking, I have substantially few cravings, too, so I am guessing I effectively lowered my nic intake, even though I keep the thing welded to my mouth, at least in the evening (and the night of the presidential election was even worse than usual - but the following day I had an interminable meeting, and did not suffer a bit...).

that is EXACTLY what I do. Mainly because I got the 24 concentration liquid and tend to over-use and get little headaches.....I have one right now! And because I have only ONE atomizer at the moment and don't want it to burn out before my new e-cig comes (tomorrow please please Mr. Mailman!!)

I did manage just now to make a decent combination of glycerine and water to thin out my e-liquid concentration, and produce good vapour on the deep inhales I tend to take. And to make it stretch a bit before my separate order of e-liquid shows up, Coca cola flavoured, mmmmmmm (please please this week Mr. Mailman!!)
