Hi, I am curious.
Any sub ohm Vapers over 50 here?

I have been vaping almost 9 months, quit for 5, had some problems with my gear, combined with naivete, a store more interested in $$ than help, at the same time purchasing through them what I now believe in hindsight to have been fake coils and even possibly a fake tank, all at the same time led me to great frustration with it and i picked up smoking again for about 4 months.
Just before Xmas was about to throw then all away due to this until I learned a critical point which caused me to understand what was wrong, why I was frustrated and I started over and quit easily again.

Jumped from 18 mg nic. to 6mg just about 2 weeks ago.
All fine.
2 days ago made the jump to sub ohm
Love it!!!

But have had 2 5-10 second incidents that concerned me a bit
Could be a reaction to nicotine as I am aware how it changes sub ohm

At the same time, hunting down info on ultrasonic cleaners somewhere I stumbled up on a Vape 101 type page and saw mention of how sub ohm level will certainly mean a decrease in gains made from having quit smoking.
In other words, they were suggesting that if one uses a regular Nautilus Mini tank, for example its known to have great safety instead of smoking but they said it wasn't as guaranteed for sub ohm.

Got me to question for the first time IF Sub ohm is necessarily the safest route for me, or anyone over 50 to go?
Hence, would like to hear feedback from others 50 and over either way as to their thoughts on this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Let me just clarify that the feelings I got, twice, were a somewhat disassociation from my body for about 5 seconds, a slight woozy feeling and although I don't consider myself to be in any way neurotic, the thought passed through me quickly, asking myself if i was on the verge of a stroke, out of the blue, not that I know personally what a stroke feels like....lol.......
Guessing that was either a reaction to the nicotine and had I been 25, I likely never would have not had that brief few seconds of panic.
But I also have occasional issues of vertigo, nothing so far serious but, something that is part of the aging process for some of us and am just 55 now and am at that age where little medical "blurbs' are starting to be felt, here and there, called ageing. I don’t think that feeling was vertigo though.
So although I am aware it was due to either one of the above.....it just has me wanting to question this step before I delve further into it at my age.

Hence, why i want to know HOW safe sub ohm Vaping is at this age........and comments from any of those that understand why i am asking.

If you put a high powered coil in a tank that was designed for much lower power, you could get insulator meltdown; or you might be getting gradually breakdown of the insulator material at higher power, and you are inhaling the toxic fumes.

The store I purchased it from set it up for me.

I am presently using a Delta ll tank with its pre-made coils that come with it, on a 50w iStick and Vaping it at 30.0w which i was told was safe...

Therefore, assuming it is perfectly safe, I am again wondering how anyone over 50 feels about sub ohm Vaping......IS IT COMMON for those over 50 or not? And why if its a yes or why if its a no? TIA

I am leaning towards that having been a reaction to the 6mg nicotine and am staying a bit away from such deep lung hits

I'm over 50.
I've never attempted to run any sub ohm coils.

I suppose it's like youth and driving; when you're young you might be inclined to drive fast; but once you get older, it's like you made it this far, could do without the excitement; got other things to worry about.

Also, I'd rather raise voltage than reduce ohms.

At sixty+ I am a sub ohm vaper. First, I would like to request all vapers use standard or larger fonts when posting here. My eyes are not the greatest.

Since introduced to dripping, I have done no other. I build my own coils right at 0.4 to 0.7 ohms depending mostly on the juice used. I can say it was a challenge to get good builds until the proper tools were acquired. I now use a magnifier type headgear with no problems. Can wrap on a screwdriver or use one of the various coiling tools but my favorite is the coiling gizmo.

As long as battery safety and proper equipment are used, I see no reason for anyone, young or old, not to try sub ohm vaping. It has opened a new world of flavor to me.

What headgear do you use? Got any link?

re nic level
we're going through a lot more at sub ohm
I can vape 3mg on days that I work, but on days that I'm home and vape constantly I vape myself sick on 3mg
buying some 2mg fixed that for me

I consider myself to have a high tolerance for nicotine as I smoke cigars and take nasal snuff and never feel either. Back in the old days our hardware was really bad at vaporizing eliquid and I needed 18-24mg to be happy. Modern hardware is really good at vaporizing eliquid, and you need to cut back on your strength or you'll get nic sick. I never, ever thought I'd be vaping 2mg. If I turn my watts up to 40 and hit an rda wide open a couple of times I can feel it at 3mg. Take your body's advice and adjust down to a level that doesn't make you sick.

I'm 59 and like to subohm. I do not do it exclusively, though. I wouldn't subohm if it weren't for pre built coils.

Curious why wouldn't pre built coils be acceptable?

That said, I just went sub ohm 2 days ago. Friday or Monday I am meeting with an experienced friend that is going to teach me how to make my own coils so that is the intention but I just need a few days to gather all I need together as I won't want to be made 1-2 that day and then wait 2-3 weeks for everything to arrive I have ordered

Curious, when you mean sick, what, nauseous?
The feeling I got was likely a stronger version of what someone gets when they smoke a cigarette for the first time.
I almost felt the room spin.
Felt as if i could have fainted but I dot believe I would have. I recall feeling that way the first time i had a cigarette although this seemed stronger.

I am aware of the need for lower nicotine and have already spoken to someone about adding O to it to make it weaker.
I am trying to put it off as i just spent $400 on the most incredible tasting juice. I bought 6 x 250 mls bottles at $50 each and have about 8 x 30mls but there are two of us here Vaping it.

I thought that the taste of it was incredible using one of my few tanks that use a Nautilus Mini tank but as soon as I had the first sub ohm hit, it was LOVE.
I don't care about the cloud issues although admittedly there is some strange satisfaction about seeing huge clouds but the taste.........the taste sub ohm is like having been a smoker and not fully tasting my food, quitting cigarettes and the taste opens right up. Thats what it was going sub ohm.

So understanding that i have gained a ton more taste this way, I realize i might have to give up a bit when i essentially have it "watered" down so to speak.
But I haven't done it yet as I won't sub ohm, at least yet completely as i have several great Nautilus tanks, etc so I will likely just adjust taste in small doses as i go along.

In any event I think we have 2 people so far over 50 that sub ohms? or 3..
assuming you don't feel in any way unhealthy?

overdosing on nicotine can give you a headache, can leave you feeling like you need to go lie down for a while, can make you feel kind of ike you drank way too much coffee, can make you anxious, can leave you feeling light headed

In any event, as much as I love nicotine, too much is no fun.

I use an inexpensive one from Harbor Freight but thinking about an upgrade. Nothing wrong with this one for the amount of times I use it, just think I would be better off with something better.

Thanks; looks interesting; what's the focal distance?
I mean like how far away does the stuff you are looking at need to be?

I bought a glasses thing a long time ago but you had to hold the item up less than an inch from the lens to see it.
What is needed is something where you see something from a foot away.

The more I read, and your words as well I believe it was a nicotine overdose. Having never been ill or ever felt "out of sorts" it panicked me because I know of 2 people in my age group the recently had strokes. Granted they were both smokers. Its partly just getting over 50, feeling 30 and something like that happens and you are smacked into reality realizing you are not 30 and your body finds little ways to remind you of this fact. I think it was one of those moments and I HAD just had a hit on the sub ohm and thought perhaps I had overdone it

Great idea but do agree, that for $4.99 I think Id be inclined to look for an upgrade if I buy one. I only wear reading glassed for objects up close but for sure know I will need something similar for rebuilding. Good idea, thanks..

Hope i haven't made the fonts TOOO big now lol

True but he apparently makes the best coils so if I am going to do it, he'd be the one to learn from. I have purchased the Japanese cotton I was advised to get but the wire will still take a few days so he will have the goods and i would be learning from one of the best I believe.
Secondly, hoping he will make me a few to tide me over until I master it.

I'm sure your "stroke" was just a little bit of nicotine overdose. I'm well over 50 and generally stay around 1.0 ohms on my builds, but I have a dual coil atty that I fire up from time to time, closer to .5 ohm builds, and it's got a pretty open air flow so mouth to lung hits are almost required. First time using the low ohm / dual coil / lung hit / 12 mg/ml juice combination, it made me dizzy and light headed, way more nicotine intake than I was accustomed to.
