Deb, if I wrap a "regular" coil.....32 gauge Kanthal, cotton wick, 5-6 wraps around my screwdriver, 1.2 ohms or so.....no popping. If I wrap a micro coil around a 16 gauge needle, 30 gauge wire, 9-10 touching coils, cotton wick, 1.8 ohms, or so.....lots of popping. I only started wrapping micro coils this week, and the first thing I noticed was the popping. I love it. Reminds me of having a good, strong, NEW atty on my REO back in the olden days.

2.0 ohms, silica wick -- pop, pop, pop. Okay, now I feel better.

I like the popping. Back when, if I got a carto or an atty that popped, that meant it was new and getting really hot, i.e. working right. I hadn't heard/felt that popping since i started using RBAs until I wrapped my first micro coil a couple of days ago. I even commented on it when I was telling super_x_drifter that I had finally got on board with his micro coils. It was exciting for me. After a day or so of using a new coil, mine have gone back to not popping, or just popping occasionally. I'm not sure why it does that, but TO ME it's a friendly noise. :)

EDIT: I think when I remove the cotton, dry burn the coil, and add new cotton that it might pop again. We'll see.

I just wrapped a new coil -- that's the reason I asked. My previous wrap stopped popping after a while. I like the popping, too.
