Found a local vapor shop last week so I had to check it out.
They make all their own juices to your selections right at the counter while you wait.
They had a testing station with all the flavors they make in 100% VG, 0% nicotine for walk-in customers.
I noticed that all the flavors seemed to off to me. Their RY4, Tigers Blood, 555 and Waffle were the only flavors they had that I have.
Those 4 flavors didn't taste like the ones I have at home. Those and all the others I tried had a very noticeable flavor (almost sickeningly sweet flavor) that overpowered any of the flavors I tried. Even the heavy tobacco ones. It really masked any of the flavors I tried and I tried a lot of them. I just attributed it to 100% Vg and 0% Nicotine and well used CE4's, so I purchased 2 15ml bottles. 80/20 PG/VG, 18 Nic. 1 of Tigers Blood as I am low on my stock and and 1 of their house blend tobaccos. It's been a little over a week of open bottle steeping and that strange overpowering taste from the store is still there with the both of them. It has come to the point that I put the bottles in the basement as I can't even stand the smell any more.
I have never tasted this weird overpowering flavor in any of the online vendors I have used.
Anybody have any idea what this taste is? Do you think it will go away?

Ethyl maltol is a very commonly used sweetening agent. Many/some liquid recipes and vendors use it. It's worth asking if it's in their recipes as a separate ingredient (as opposed to a pre-sweetened flavor). If it is separate, they perhaps could customize yours will a little less. I know some online vendors will customize with add'l sweetener, so taking it out if there should be no problem, if it is separately added.

Local shop's often pay an employee a small amount (like 1 buck) per bottle they mix up. Some have them pre-stocked and you can bet that employee is pushing out a ton of bottles an hour and not really paying attention to what they are doing completely. Also if there samples aren't good chances are the bottles they are selling you wont be any good as they more then likely have a recipe they are following. If the person that makes up the recipe likes overly sweet or tons of added flavoring then your results will be as such.

I personally never liked store made juice, there's no way to tell how sanitary there mixing area and equipment is imho. Online is just as much a gamble but no one really has the same horror stories that they do with a walk-in mix it on the spot location.

I've read that you shouldn't open-bottle steep for more than a day, probably just a few hours. But of course with those juices, I don't blame you for trying your best to exorcise the demon taste.

I tried some juices at a local (flea market) shop, and they were like that; just horrible. I didn't buy any.

I have had juices that took a full month to come around. So, I'd suggest you hang on to them and see what happens down the road. And, find another place to buy juice.

I'm not really sure if sickeningly sweet is the correct diagnose I am describing. I just know that the taste is very distinguishable and over powers whatever the selected flavors. It is the same for every flavor I tried from them at the testing station. The smell is the same smell as it tastes and it gets sickening. I have ordered juice online with extra flavor shots, but nothing like this. Just glad I only got 2 bottles.

As far as steeping goes, I sometimes steep open bottle for as long 2 weeks, sometimes longer with plenty of shaking, but typically at least 3 days. All steeping is done in a cool dark place.
