Now you've got me wondering about what the heavy duty spring should feel like. Oops.

I think the only solution here is for you to send me a whole new Precise P18 with a heavy-duty spring pre-installed for extended testing in both hands, switching hands, over the course of three/four years. *nod nod nod* -Magnus

If David is not able to do that, you can just send me your P18 so that I can test it for your for a few months :)

Seriously, the HD spring is noticeably stiffer than the light spring. Just stand up your P18 on the table with a battery and atty installed. If the button pushes up from the weight of the unit, it's the light spring. If it doesn't, it's the HD spring.

Then this is the light spring still. It just barely holds better than the light spring but just enough to prevent pocket triggers for me. Which is why I ordered it... but when I stand it I still notice it slightly depress just like before and a bounce. Crap. I guess I'll order it again when I get home. Accidents happen or so my mom keeps reminding me. -Magnus

What should the heavy spring weigh in grams versus the light spring? Or what other measurable metric can I use to determine? -Magnus

Did you get the heavier spring in yet? I recall sending that out earlier this week. It's noticeably heavier to depress then the OEM, not sure of the exact specs of its spring rate however.

MAn! I was all excited when I saw your name as the last poster but it was a false alarm!

Got it today, installed it about 10m ago. It's MUCH heavier. Stands on end, PERFECT for pocket use. Not even the slightest worry on my part now. THANK YOU for correcting that shipping error so quickly! -Magnus

Is there any visual difference between the 2 (wire size, coloration, etc)? When I made a parts order earlier this week I ordered HD springs as well. Sounds like the difference in use will be obvious but I was hoping to be able to identify them by sight as I can see sitautions where I would want the OEM as well as times when the HD will be the ideal.

Thanks! :)

The heavy spring looks every-so-slightly thicker. I actually took a sharpie and ran it against the inside of the spring coils so I could easily differentiate. -Magnus

Sounds good man. I'll go that route too as my old eyes may not be able to readily differentiate small variances.

I think its time to bump this thread up again. I absolutely love my p16 but I have designated it for home use only now because I always have a ton of stuff in my pocket and was getting too many pocket fires. I am not looking for solutions that involve putting a cap over the button or anything like that, I really really want to see the solution that David came up with some time ago. David, any idea when you might get back to this?

Hi atavanhalen! I won't be doing a cap or plug of any sort. I have designed and prototyped a locking button as I was mentioning in some other threads awhile back. The only thing is, i can't put an ETA on it yet as i don't want to get it wrong and disappoint anyone, but do know that one is coming.

Yeah, locking buttons for every member of the Precise line would be a very welcome development. Hopefully, those who have already bought Precises would not have to pay out too much money for the upgrade. Also, what of those like me who bought an original P10? It is a different unit than the current one. Would something be available for these vintage units too?

Well, the P10 has less of an issue because there is less exposed surface area. Since I put a fresh spring in it, there have not been any accidental activations. I was just curious.
yeah and the p10 has a lot less weight coming down on the button. Glad to hear that it is still in the works but disappointed that it wont be available for a while. I know that everyone says this but if you need some real world testing I am here and ready to test! As far as price goes, I would be happy if it was 25 bucks or so but I guess that depends on how complicated it is and what goes into making it.
