Your phone has been confiscated for some reason, seems to be for import taxes. Call the number (219-8799) and try to get someone on the other line who speaks English. You should be receiving something in the mail with a few numbers listed on it as well.
Thanks for your help Synyster!
This morning I got the notification by hand delivery, and called them. I was worried. But after 2 min of chat, they said that all they required from me, was a was fax saying that it's an iPhone, and what the value is. I said $800 and they told me it would cost ¥2.200.
I don't have a fax machine anymore, (who even does) so I wrote my name and phone number, contents and value etc. right on the customs slip, snapped a quick pic with my iPhone, cropped and mailed. All in 30 seconds flat. hehe. Modern technology for you
Anyway, I am SO relieved. The iPhone isn't even mine, I got it for a friend in Vietnam, and I'm leaving on Saturday! This whole iPhone saga has been a month of hassle for me. Then when it finally arrived in Japan, but getting bonded, it just seemed like the last straw.
I have renewed faith in the Japanese officials. Not that I ever lost faith - but now it's doubled. My friend had lied on the waybill, saying there were art supplies in the package. They could have got nasty, or charged me a ton, or wasted my time, or sent it back etc. (or in some countries KEPT it), but this being Japan, they obviously didn't.
