Hi, gang.

ECF might not be the ideal place to ask this question, but I am sure your responses will be better than the tripe I got by Googling this.

I think I might be *too* attached (addicted?) to vaping. I would like to cut back. I am vaping mostly 6mg of nicotine with the occasional few drops of 12mg added in, but I vape constantly. I mean, I sleep with the vape where a mate should be. I never leave home without it. I panic if I think I might run out of coils or haven't charged my main device and a back up.

I don't feel like it is harming my health, but I don't sleep very well so all the chain vaping in bed can't be helping. In bed chain vaping and reading the Internet is the best thing ever.

So my question is have any of you found yourselves in this position and have you put some restrictions on your vaping that have allowed you to cut back without the pain of cutting yourself off from vaping?

Hmm, you could always up your nicotine which would, in turn, allow you to cut back... lol Cutting back on vaping is definitely going to be tough. I don't really see the need, I experience everything you do as well. If it's not causing any problems in your life, and with your friends and family... I don't know. I wish you the best of luck though!

I chain vape every night before bedtime and sleep like a baby ever since I quit death sticks. I do have the regular waking in the middle of the night episode for drinking too much water, not drinking enough and then needing to pee some more. Just get that nasty computer monitor out of your face in bed:

-Too much stimulation in bed or just before bedtime = too much stimulation. Computer and TV are just not good for bedtime.
-LCD screens (most LED's, really) emit a lot of blue light and that tends to reset your circadian rythm like the morning sunrise is blue as compared to sunset, which is orange (the study is still ongoing, but this is a common conclusion among researchers so far and experimenters agree.)
-Light pointed at your face just tends to put your body on alert.

I have experienced severe sleep troubles in years past and spent a good 6 months of my life researching the issue, but you are free to take it or leave it. I vape like mad before bedtime and leave the vape out of the bedroom. Bedtime means getting on my back and closing my eyes and I normally fall asleep in record time. MP3 relaxation tracks also help a lot and reading can also help, but NO TV or Internet!!! (mommy slaps you on the ....)

[EDIT]: uppimg my nicotine did help put the vaperizer down more than I used to, though, but I still chain vape before bed. Better than midnight cookies, still...

You know, increasing the amount of nic is not all that crazy of an idea. I know I couldn't vape as much with 12mg of nic.

No one is disowning me or firing me so I think this is more of a Jess issue than a real issue. :D

You are completely correct. As I was sitting here at 1:45 a.m. contemplating my vape "addiction", I was also thinking about why I can't seem to put the computer down. I *know* it's the one of the main reasons I sleep poorly, if at all.

And we have a second vote for more nicotine. These answers are turning out better than I thought. lol I thought everyone was going to just tell me to stop with all the vaping and white knuckle it.

Well, where is this vaping in context of any quit smoking? If you smoked, how much and for how long? Also, how long have you been completely off smoking?

What you may consider too much vaping may only be a phase of adjusting up to a necessary level in context of how much you used to smoke. A lot of new users actually have to work up to vaping enough, and on a consistent basis when they start to address their quit smoking issues and cravings.

We don't believe in white knuckling anything. That's that other forum--1-800-QUIT-NOW. ;)

Seriously, don't kill yourself. Have fun with it. How long have you been vaping? Are you still smoking an occasional cigarette? If you like to chain vape, 6-12 mg is fine. If you'd like to vape less frequently, I agree with the recommendation to up your nic a bit--maybe just fill one tank with 18 or 24 mg/ml and take a drag or two when you need a break from nonstop low nic vaping.

Good luck and happy vaping.

WHAT? STOP VAPING? That is a statement that will get you committed to the padded vape cell!
Computers and TV are a know insomnia factor, even to the less knowledgeable of doctors (trust me, I almost sued my doctor for making me go through a sleep apnea test when I clearly had NOISY neighbors and all my ex's say I snore with a wide-opened mouth, Obvious case of pharmaceutical corruption, but it was free, so I let her have it her stupid way since it meant the clinic was clearly wasting money on pure ignorance or hard stupidity )

The sleep secret is to have a ritual: dim the lights, brush your teeth, do whatever you have to before going to bed, Then, get re-acquainted with books and low lights or check out the good doctor Monroe's institute... THEY know about deep sleep like you can't even imagine! Even the regular relaxation tape is now incorporating binaureal technology and will get you to sleep like nothing ever did (other than sex can anyways, but that's a guy thing non of us can explain)

I only smoked when out with smoking friends until March of this year. By May of this year, I was up to 7-10 per day, but that didn't last more than a week or two. All told, I probably smoked for only about 6 weeks. I have been vaping since May.

I probably could have stopped smoking without vaping, but I liked the act of smoking (not the smell or the way it made me feel) so vaping seemed like a good alternative. I feel like I would have had an easier time quitting cigarettes than I would have if I tried to stop vaping.

OK, quit vaping and white knuckle it. :)

Or switch to zero nic. Seriously--you're probably OD-ing on nicotine.

That advice works for everything in my opinion. Insomnia and chain vaping inclusive.:)

How long have you been vaping? Are you still smoking an occasional cigarette?

Since May of this year (4 months). I had a cig a couple of weeks ago with aforementioned smoking friends, but it was disgusting so I don't think I'm in danger of going back to analogs.

I take it back... You were never a smoker, IMO. You're probably getting more nic now than you ever did..

Sleep doctors...don't get me started. A complete waste. I know I have poor "sleep hygiene." If I did all those things in your post, which are all of the things I have read over and over during my sleepless nights, I am sure I would be better off, but those things haven't been a magic bullet (magic sleeping pill?) for me. Did these things work for you?

That could be true. That checks out with my fear that quitting vaping would be more difficult than quitting smoking would have been, But here I am. Nicotine addition and all.

First get rid of the fear. We have nothing to fear but fear itself! :D

And pace yourself. Good luck!
