I suspect that is the case for most people. Glad to see someone else say something I was thinking :)

Check out this thread.

You are correct.

I believe the Density of Nicotine is 1.01 grams per Cubic Centimeters. So yes, in the 12mg Example, the True value is 1.1881%

So if a person used 1.2% instead of 1.1181% they would be off by .0119% for any given amount in a given DIY Mix.

But of course, this is Based on the Belief that their Nicotine Base was Exactly what it is Supposed to be Percentage wise and that a person’s measuring Equipment is very, Very Good.

I don’t worry too much about the .0119% Relative Error in my DIY Mixes.

One, because I can’t tell the difference between 12mg and 12.3mg e-liquids. And Second because my Graduated Cylinders aren’t Accurate enough to measure below +/- .1 ml.

That and I can’t confirm that the 50mg Nicotine Base I buy is Actually 50mg. Or should I say, 4.9505% Nicotine per Volume at Sea Level/72F.

Also, add the nic last. after you've mixed flavor and pg/vg

That seems like a good idea, but wont flavor be off until all ingredients are there?

Say im making 10mL @15mg with 60mg nic liquid at 50/50 PG/VG with 10% flavor. That leaves 9mL after flavor. if 4.5 of that is vg, 2mL will be straight PG. Wont the flavor be stronger than it should until i add that last 2.5mL of nic.... then the flavor might drop off... Just add more flavor if it drops off?

well its impt because if you dont dig the flavor, then you are wasting the most expensive aspect of the mix. That i understand, its just how do you do the calculations without adding nic?

My nic is PG based, so i use less pg until nic is added, but when tasting without the nic, the flavor will dissipate some when finally adding the nic... how do you calculate for that?

When you make nic-less liquid you're supposed to use the correct percentages for the amount without including nic if that makes sense....

So 10mL of liquid (no nic) with 10% flavoring == 1 mL flavor, 9mL 0mg VG/PG

And taste test that way.

Am I making sense cause I can't tell.. LOL

My 60mg nic averages 'bout $.07 a ml. If I mix a 10ml flav sample, that's 'bout $.18 I've invested in da nic. I'll gladly spend that amount to know exactly what my joose tastes like!

I premix my nic/PG/VG in 100ml batches. Makes mixing sooooo much easier!

You’d throw out 70 Cents worth of e-Liquid?

What a Blatant Waste! What are you? One of the 2%-ers?

I bet you’re one of “Those People” who at dinner rounds up the Tip to the Nearest Dollar instead of Tipping the Standard 4% !!!

I just did my first DIY :) (TY ECF!) and used Wizard Labs nic which has a tiny flavor... if I had added it last it would have been a different vape. I know the hardcore DIY people use 100% tasteless stuff at one or two other vendors but I need that to tell taste.

And I have a chem background... if you non-chem peeps think you are making exactly 15.00 vs +/- in your non-seasoned beakers and cheapo cylinders like I bought you are mistaken :). (I'm not either ;) )

The beakers and cylinders aren't accurate?

Every measuring device has a Level of Accuracy. Beakers an Graduated Cylinders are No Excwption

Consider Measuring 15ml of a Liquid...

If I want my measurement to be Accurate to 10%, I need a device that can measure within +/- 10% of 15ml. 10% of 15ml = 1.5ml

So I need a Device that is Accurate to +/- 1.5ml - My Graduated Cylinder is Accurate to +/- .1ml so I'm OK.

---
If I want my measurement to be Accurate to 1%, I need a device that can measure within +/- 1% of 15ml. 1% of 15ml = .15ml

So I need a Device that is Accurate to +/- .15ml - My Graduated Cylinder is Accurate to +/- .1ml so I'm still OK.

---
If I want my measurement to be Accurate to .1%, I need a device that can measure within +/- .1% of 15ml. .1% of 15ml = .015ml

So I need a Device that is Accurate to +/- .015ml - My Graduated Cylinder is Accurate to +/- .1ml so now I'm Definitely Not OK and have only a Remote Chance of doing a Measurement that is within .1% of what I want.

---
If I want my measurement to be Accurate to .01%, I need a device that can measure within +/- .01% of 15ml. .01% of 15ml = .0015ml

So I need a Device that is Accurate to +/- .0015ml - My Graduated Cylinder is Accurate to +/- .1ml so I have an EXTREMELY Small chance of making a Measurement that is within .01%. It is Possible. But so is Winning the Lottery on the Same Day as you are Bitten by a Shark.

At this point I better start thinking about "Moles" and Consider buying a Good Analytical Balance.

---

So when talking about Accuracy, you really have to say at what Level something is Accurate.

BTW - I know a few "Mixers" who make e-Liquids that are sold Retail. They work more in the 10% Range of Accuracy for Nicotine mg. They do this because it is Easier and their customers can't tell the Difference from Batch to Batch.

That and the Nicotine mg of there Nicotine Base varies from Batch to Batch.

Actually, with the Vaping Zone concentrates, it's more like 2.5%.

Actually, I'm one of those that rounds up the leftovers for the takeout box...
